Hour Meters
« on: July 25, 2017, 11:13:35 AM »
In general, normal stock installation, do hour meters run whenever the key is in the on position and the battery has juice?

Yes, never seen it otherwise on anything that has/had an hour meter on it.  I suppose a circuit could be created to monitor ignition or stator pulses, but I cant think what the advantage to that would be.  My Bobcat is Diesel, but if I leave the key on without it running, the hour meter clicks away.

Thanks, I thought so.  Left key in on position , came back next week battery dead.  Probably rolled 80 hours on it before it died.  Feel stupid, moving on.  Has Thunderbolt electronic ignition module so anything else I could have hurt?

Electric fuel pump?  Stereo?   Doubt it would cause any permanent harm except putting some hurt on a non deep cycle battery, they usually don't like deep discharges.  I run a VDO dual oil pressure sensor, so if the key is left on and not running, there would be a big red light on my dash telling me so.  Have left key on in Bobcat before, just racked up lots of hours.

I just ordered this this morning.  It reads a plug wire so it won't matter if key is left on.

I think this has become an addiction.

That should well enough to track service intervals.
