New guy with a cool find
« on: April 12, 2011, 06:26:22 PM »
Hello to all,

My name is Carlos and I live in the Hudson Valley region of NY. I own a small construction business in the area. I'm always busy so I wasn't looking for another project but it seems I found one.

I bought a house couple years ago that needed lots of work and cleaning up. Tons of junk in the yard along with boats and trailers. I cut up two boats and stumbled across one behind the garage. It was covered with a tarp and had lumber and trees stacked on top of it so I assumed another day of cutting.

Quite surprised by what I found. A 1974 Glastron Carlson CV 18ss apricott/cream. No pot of gold here as it has pleanty of issues but all in all, it's real cool. The owner gave me all the paperwork for the boat with the house and said good luck ,so I'm all set.

Here is what I know.....Ford 302 Windsor with 351 heads, 4bbl carb, log style manifolds and Volvo Penta 270 outdrive. Last ran in 06 and was taken care of untill then. Sat outside under tarp for 3-4 years and in my garage for last two. I soaked it for a week it wouldn't turn so I took it apart and here I am ready to go.

So wish me luck and keep your eyes open on the posts because this is my first boat and I'm going to need all of your help to get it going again

Carlos

Welcome Carlos!

Glad you made it over here.

AFAIK, you're the only one in the club with a CV-18ss.  There was a blue one for sale last summer that no one here picked up...and that disaster in Madison...that's all I remember seeing.

It's an awesome find.

Rich is a great resource (marine mechanic), and on the East coast as well, CT, I believe, so he can probably advise on the engine rebuild.

Welcome!

Wow considering you got it for free that's in really nice shape. Amazing how much nicer they stay when they are in a garage versus sitting outside in the elements. Like the color combo.
