Is this going to be a new project for Jeff?  It looks to be in good shape.

Jeff - Do you know if that boat really only has 255 hours on it?

Crazy low if that's the true hours!:o

The current owner which is the 2nd owner bought off of somebody on lake Minnetonka in the mid eightys.  He claims that the hour meter is correct.

The new identifying picture of carlsoncvx18 and listing of boats including 1981 CV27 says it all.

What's the top speed on the pair of floor jacks?  Congratulations on finding a 27, hope to see it at the meet next year.

Looks like a great candidate for a restoration. Any rot been found during inspection?
Title: Re: CV27
Post by: carlsoncvx18 on October 11, 2020, 09:04:27 AM
Not planning any restoration just a color sand and buff , rebuild back seat wood and a little tic.
Title: Re: CV27
Post by: CVX Fever on October 11, 2020, 06:23:21 PM
Jeff - In the pictures looks like it should come back real nice with a good wet sand and buff. I was thinking you told me the wood structure was good and solid in it when you first looked at it otherwise you would have moved on.

Post by: 75starflight on October 12, 2020, 12:37:05 PM
That is good that it is just TLC plus a sand and polish!
Title: Re: CV27
Post by: Hyperacme on October 12, 2020, 01:24:07 PM
By the overall shape of the boat it looks like it only has 255 hours on it.
Vinyl has no signs of wear ...
Has some problems .. but nothing major or not easily fixed, he even had replacements for the broken trim pieces.
Trailer even looks nice !

Greg - That's amazing you can still buy those trim parts.

Jeff - Where's the before and after test shots on the gelcoat wet sand/buff???? Bet the color on that CV27 comes back really nice!!!!

Title: Re: CV27
Post by: Hyperacme on October 16, 2020, 12:56:08 PM
Kip .. Talked to Aaron and all parts on Tibus are gone.
Jeff has bow cap, but need to be re-chromed.
The broken air intake / trim piece is two pieces and would have been very hard to find or very expensive to reproduce.

100% the color will come back !

Unique design, I never seen one up close, does the slot hold some tubing or seat on the trailer using that?
Title: Re: CV27
Post by: carlsoncvx18 on November 24, 2020, 06:29:25 AM
I believe the slot is for a anchor rope as there is storage in the forward part of the bow for one.

Changed the engine hatch covers from  no button to buttons and one panel to 4. And to match the rest of the boat

Took off the rear rail around the engine bay did a little sanding. Was all set to use spar varnish Gregg talked me into teak oil. Going to put on 5 coats hope it last a little while. Anybody have other tips let me know.
Title: Re: CV27
Post by: Plugcheck on March 10, 2021, 09:24:41 PM
I like the look of the teak oil, but urethanes seem to last longer and require less maintenance.  Just my experience, and not on as much surface area as you have showing.

Good job Greg! ;)  Teak looks best when oiled IMHO & it's not that bad/hard to keep it looking nice.

Post by: Hyperacme on March 12, 2021, 07:38:09 PM
Oiled teak is beautiful !
Once you get it looking good, you can just wipe it down once in a while, depending on how long and how much it's exposed to sun / weather.
First picture is my (Old) boat, the rest are from internet .. but you can see the huge amount of teak ..
Title: Re: CV27
Post by: David CVX-16 on March 12, 2021, 08:47:58 PM
I prefer oiling the teak. Just rub on a generous coat, let it sit awhile, and rub off the excess. Short work once a year.
Title: Re: CV27
Post by: carlsoncvx18 on March 14, 2021, 08:09:24 PM
Gregg that is a ot of teak to take care of.

Been working on the stuff out of the 27 about 1/2 done need to wait for warmer weather to do the inside the boat stuff I can not remove.

Every thing  is getting 4 coats not sure if it was ever touched since new.
Title: Re: CV27
Post by: Hyperacme on March 14, 2021, 08:27:32 PM
The teak that doesn't see sun / weather will only need oiling once a year.
The exposed teak will need to be wiped down about every two weeks.
I kept a old  teak oiled washcloth in a zip lock bag and would wipe it down when it needed it.
Just don't let it get bad again .. and a quick wipe down will get it looking good again.

Ok your hired!

The stuff inside barley touch it with 220grit and it is ready to oil.

Ordered a triangle sanding attachment for the oscillating tool to get into all the corners.

Title: Re: CV27

Buffing is easier when the boat is right side up.   Seriously looks great, not sure I'll ever own one that wasn't a basket case to start with.

Little up date.  New gimbal bearings and bellows installed.  Joe came over last night to help with alignment and installation of drives.  Drives went on with a fight we feel there was very tight tolerance from coupler to drive shaft beings there is low hrs on everything. Thanks Joe for the help and Jimmy B for the adult supervision.

Oh the day was not without its problems.   Starboard motor overheating believe to be water pump which is new. Minor electrical starting issues with both motors. The plus side made it to the kinni the trip home was a little slow.
