Vent Covers
« on: March 26, 2012, 02:33:35 PM »
I need to get some vent covers for the 18 and was wondering if anyone knows of any ones that are close to the originals. I only have one and it is not in the greatest shape. If i put different ones on i was thinking of going stainless just cause they should be a little harder to break.
I think this has become an addiction.

Shawn, are these the vent covers you are talking about?  I was in the same boat ....  been looking for originals to replace on my '77 CVX-20 as well to no avail... decided to go forth with these so I could keep my project moving forward.   I just finished them, definitely not original, but what do you guys think?  :-/  It was very hard for me to accept the fact I was going to have to cut large holes in the top deck, but got up the courage and went for it.  I think they turned out pretty good.  They are kinda close I suppose to the old school 70's originals, but they do look very close to what is used on the later 80's models.  You can still buy these new.  They are unfortunately plastic, but easy to find a replacement if broken.

These are the exact new ones I got off of eBay, link is to same guy I bought from... has 5 sets left.  But they are sold new at numerous marine supply stores, appear to be pretty common, so you may be able to get them cheaper somewhere else?

If interested, I have a used pair just like them... see pics below.  They have some scratches and bumps/some discoloration. Honestly the pics probably make them look a little better than they are.  I can email you the actual pictures if you want.
