Title: Repowering CVX-16
Post by: AShaffer on July 01, 2018, 11:31:03 PM
I am looking for suggestions on repowering my CVX-16. I am currently running a Evinrude EVO 120. Looking for something more reliable and with better fuel economy and faster. Does anyone have any suggestions Thanks, Andrew

A modern 4-stroke would work nicely.  A bigger question would be what is your budget?

Is your transom in good shape, a newer / faster motor will be heaveir and drive your CVX faster then it was designed for ...
How fast is your CVX now ?

Merc makes 115 /125 HP 4cyls. and 135 / 150 HP V6cyls. 2 strokes also.
I'm not a 4 stroke fan, heavy and expensive ...

Suggestion # 1
Rebuild your Evinrude 120 / cheapest route, with some setup / tuning should be good for mid to high 50's.
You could add a few go fast parts and make a nice fast boat ...

#2 ...
Evinrude E-tec 135 HO / Little faster, expensive, would still be with in boats HP rating.

#3 ...
Evinrude 150 HO / Very fast, very expensive. would be good for mid to high 60's.

I have known the Green one since it came off the truck....most of its life with a 135 but when the V6's hit the market just had to try a 175....40 horsepower difference but way more enthusiastic with the V6......picked up a 1985 150 Evinrude to repower the Blue one this summer......In my opinion......go v6 ...they are easy to find and cheap......
