Title: Arkansas trip
Post by: DanR on July 17, 2010, 03:00:48 PM
Anybody around Mountain Home Arkansas? I'm going to visit my father-in-law next week. Might just bring the boat along to run it on Norfork Lake. I've always wanted to bring it down, the inlaw won't pull the kids on a tube with his pontoon, so I have to bring my Glastron. I'm leabving Friday night, staying for a week. I'd sure like to find some fellow Glastrons to hang with down there, even if'n ya'll have a funny way of talkin'.

Allyall will love having the Glastron with you!  hehe

I won't be in the area this time around, but maybe at some future point!

Never been to Norfork, but if you want the scoop on Bull Shoals for some future trip I can probably help you there.  We vacation at Spring Creek Resort almost every summer (haul our boat from San Antonio TX, but grew up in St. Louis), been going for the last 40 years... spring creek arm is my favorite spot on the lake.  We've spent time on Table Rock, Tanycomo, and Beaver, but mostly Bull Shoals.  We usually take a ride down to Mountain Home while we're there to hit a movie, etc... it's not that far away from where we stay.

We hope to eventually get some property and retire in the area, so we can spend a lot more time on these lakes.

Can't imagine being there for a week without my boat....  BRING THE BOAT!!!

Hope you have a great time.

Mark

We've been going down there for the last 8 years, my father-in law moved there 9 years ago. His pontoon is at a marina just down the road from his house. There's a boat launch at George's Cove about a mile from his house. The wife doesn't like the idea of pulling the boat for 10-12 hours. Says her dad has one there we can ride on. I want the kids to enjoy the time on the water. He won't pull a tube or knee board. Says his boat isn't made for that. He's got a 25' with 150 hp. It goes 36 mph and has a heavy duty eye on the back with a sticker that says "attach ski/tube rope here". He still says it's not made for it. My little 4 door Tracker might not like it, but I think I'm gonna try it. We'll see how it handles the hills down there. It huffed it's way up some on the way to the 2008 meet that slowed me down to 25 mph, but it made it up. I'll be in the slow lane for sure.

Well, if I interpret your FIL's "Its not made for that"...he's saying, there isn't any way you're pulling tubes with his pontoon while he's still breathing...he knows it can do it.  He's just not going to allow it.

So, I say, hitch it up.  Are you talking about a Geo Tracker?  Can it do it with all the gear your family will have?

It's the same vehicle as a Suzuki Grand Vitara 2.5 V-6. I put a little bigger tires on it, so that'll kinda ruin the gearing for those hills, but I think it'll do it. It tows the boat real nice, it's just the hills that'll slow me down. I put new tires on the trailer and greased the bearings. It's ready to go, just need to run the rest of the gas out of it before we go. I should have fun doing that!

Yeah, I forget they had a 2nd Gen that was much better...I was thinking Geo Tracker Gen1!

Go for it.  Maybe that'll convince the FIL that its time to give in.

Looks like the boat may stay home. My daughter has an infection on her finger. Doc says not to go in the water with it. She has 2 days to heal up , I really want to bring it!

Just cause the boat goes in the water does not mean she has to!  Could always wrap it in a plastic bag!  Been there, done that!

I told the wife we could put a rubber glove on her, but she says no. it'd be torture on her to bring the boat if she can't tube or knee board. Was gonna try and teach her to ski there too. We'll see, it looks better already.

Actually, don't they make waterproof bandages these days?  How big is the cut?

It's the wife that's the problem. I can make it water tight, she's just overprotective. I've decided to bring it anyway, just in case!

LOL! Uh huh....
Yeah well no comment!
This has GOT to be one of the few places where you can talk about a cut and find a link to waterproof bandages! Unreal! This resource is invaluable!  ;D

We're here. Only 1 flat at 3 AM during a rain storm. Oh, and I forgot my ski rope. We just got in from the lake, on my way to WallyWorld for a rope. Pics will come when I get home. Also, water temp around 85, so much better than Lake Michigan temps of 50-60.
