Ran across a boater in distress this morning, used my 37 year old Johnson powered Glastron to tow him in!

It wasn't a Glastron, but I knew it was the right thing to do anyway. ;D

Hey Mark, I just notice the spot light on your boat. Looks alot like the one I removed from my Crestflite. Originally it was controled by cable but that was messed up and so was the wiring. Maybe I should keep it for parts? Wonder if that was dealer installed. I'll take a pic or two.
He'd need a pretty stiff rope Jerry. ;)

Never hesitate to stop and help a fellow boater in distress. Bad Karma if'n ya don't. King Neptune will frown on you.
Towed some folks in a few months back. Couple weeks later I recieved a nice ThankYou note & $100 check!?
Moral of the story: Sometimes it pays to tow another. But even if it doesn't it's still the right thing to do.

For those of you that are familiar with boating with us here in the CGOAMN, we are known for "Never Leaving a fellow boater behind!"
It's ouw meet moto, and sure is a good way to live on the water!

It's the law here in Indiana not to pass a stranded boater....Glastron or not! If I see someone looking at their motor? I stop and ask if they need assistance regardless of what I'm doing or where I'm going.

There wasn't ever a doubt about stopping to help, and I was kidding about doing it even though it wasn't a 'tron. They were actually the second boat I'd stopped to ask if they needed help, the first was a pontoon inboard with the motor cover up and all you could see was the guys legs sticking out, most of his body was down in the engine compartment! There were several other people on the boat, and they advised they were fine - he was just checking a pump fitting or something.
It gives you a good feeling to help a fellow boater out, and I always figure there's hope they will stop and help the next guy out when they are in they same situation. My wife didn't even give me a hard time for being late coming back in, she seemed to understand completely! Life is good.

Mark, I wasn't questioning your intentions of helping a fellow boater out. I was stating the laws here in Indiana. I was "renting" a boat several years ago while staying at a cottage north of Ft. Wayne when I noticed someone paddling their boat on Crooked Lake. I/we watched as several boaters drove? by the troubled boat. My brother-in-law and I left the cottage, and families, to go rescue the boaters and towed them to the complete other end of the lake. When we got to his cottage, he was holding his hand out with some cash in it as my b-i-l dropped the tow rope and we left. I've towed several boats in and have only accepted? cash one time, and that only happened because I was loading my boat at the same time and he kept insisting that I take it. I've never done it for the money..........it's the satisfaction of helping a stranded boater out. I may need some help some day..........As Doug would say, "Good Karma"

One of the lessons I learned the hard way with my big motor and small gas tank....carry extra gas!
Last week I got waved down a couple miles from the boat launch..."Our boat wont' run". Uh-huh. I donated my 2 spare gallons and amazingly it solved their problem. They tried to pay me for the gas (which was expensive 100% gas, not that E10 crap), but I refused. I gave them instructions to buy a spare gas can, and pass the favor on.

And if all the reasons listed for doing it werent enough, if any of us has ever tried paddling a boat, any kind of distance knows that some wind can turn you around and take away any progress you made in a short time. Especially if you are just one paddle. Its a pain and really makes an offer for a tow a blessing. We had some experience with this when I was a kid.

With a boat like mine, the paddles are really only good for waving in the air at passing boaters, and trying to push off the rocks when the wind blows you to shore...
Maybe I should mount a little kicker motor off the back for safety sake!

Ha ha ha! Yeah that's about all a paddle's good for on a powerboat Brian. Or for whacking an unruly passenger over the head I s'pose ...
Hey mebbe getcha a pair o those trim tabs with the integral trolling motors. They're only about $1500 bucks or so? Heh heh heh.

Mark - Thanks. It's not nearly as nice as yours, but I'm still workin' on it. ;)
Ross & Brian - Had a little experience with the paddles during the "sandbar incident" a few months ago, and you are so right! The paddles onboard helped me push it off the sandbar, but that was about it. I was carrying a small transom mount trolling motor, (28 lb thrust I think), and it wouldn't even move the boat part of the time because the wind was blowing me away from the marina I was trying to get to. My son-in-law has since borrowed it and not returned it, so........... Since I do love to fish, I'm trying to figure out how to mount a bow-mount trolling motor so it's removable, and without drilling a bunch of hole in my deck!

I was going to take a pic of that spot light and forgot. I'll get one. In case you didnt see that I mentioned I think I have the same one you do earlier in this thread.

I think I saw that in your post Ross, but forgot. (Getting old and feeble minded I guess.) That would be cool buddy, thanks! Mine has Taylor Made on the handle, but is wired into the control box. So I'm guessing the dealer installed it when he rigged the boat. I would love to find a match to go on the other side. (Old school hot rodder = dual everything.)

I can relate.
no biggy I just dont want to throw it if you could use it for parts or whatever.
Handle? OK sounds different. This one was connected to a cable for long distance beaming. Cable is broke.

Thanks Mark. I try. Way I look at it there's far too much chaos & disorder in the world already. Not to say that I don't enjoy chaos & disorder & destruction. But I will not tolerate it from my crew or passengers ...!
Which is why I always carry a sawed off lead filled paddle ... Just in case.
