I love weather like we had yesterday and have been waiting for a storm like this for a long time. For me if your going to have winter you might as well have snow, and lots of it. At noon yesterday Woodbury was a ghost town - I love it! Sure made shopping at Best Buy a piece of cake. No crowds and parking up front! ;D  Give me another just like it in January and Februaury and I'll be a happy camper.

And hey my wife's Christmas party for work got cancelled last night!....LOL

For the Vikings...couldn't have been a better selling point on why a new stadium is needed.  I can't imagine they'll fix it with so few home games left.

I was reading that the Gopher stadium has been winterized, but I would suspect it'd be cheaper to bring that back online for the final home games than repair the dome?

I really hope they can find the political & financial will to get a new stadium built.

I will bet the fabric dome is a warranty item. Down her in AZ a dam broke that was manufactured rubber dam .... Goodyear or Firestone.  Replaced the multi million dollar dam .. did not pay to refill the lake though of course.  Tempe Town Lake. Anyhow ... bet they have their butts covered.

I'm with Kip. As long as I dont have to drive in to much or get snowed in at work, the more the better.  :o
I will say I feel like I wasted much of the weeken pushing snow around. Managed to get my atv stuck 7 times! That part sucks! My back is killing me and sore all over.

Took the sled out yesterday and with all the blowing snow, I could not see the trail markers or drifts or much of anything. Fogged up helmet so I would open the shield and it snow inside my helmet. Got gas and came back home after about an hour. Really not safe riding alone in those conditions. I have gotten stuck before and its no fun!
So after saying "more the better" I just went on to complain about it? Doh ???

Ross - Right on! Us snowmobilers live for storms like this. Having some type of winter recreational activity you can look forward to sure makes a lot of sense in my book. I took my oldest to Afton Alps for his first ski lesson yesterday and he absolutely loved it!

I dunno Chris - I'm sure that warranty has an 'Act of God' clause in it that relieves them of responsibility for things like this.  That's what, the 2nd or 3rd time that roof has come down?

Lloyds of London maybe for Insurance?  I'm sure the news stories will cover all that stuff very soon.

I doubt it would be act of god.  It's a roof membrane, designed to handle a designated load.  17 inches of wet snow is no where near the 100 year max snow load local building codes would require.  Defect, wear or installation issues usually cause roof failure. Down here UV failure due to improper upkeep is the usual cause.

First the 35W Bridge collapses and now the Mall of Amerca Field dome, what is next? The Hastings bridge was built like the 35W bridge, if something goes, everything goes. Reconstruction has started to replace it.

They've been showing video from inside the dome as it collapsed down here in Atlanta today, kinda spooky!  (No word on repairs, fault, insurance, etc., yet.)  They did say the game scheduled there was moved to Detroit's Ford Field.

I love the snow and these BIG storms too. Makes life interesting. Snowboarding Friday (before the storm). I was out plowing most of the afternoon Sunday. Made $200!

I heard the video from inside was pretty cool. I havent seen it yet.

Jason
200.00? How much plowing did you do? 50.00 a driveway?

Kip
I bet the skiing was great. I havent been out for years and feel like I might shatter if I fall. Lesson learned the hard way before....stretch befor you go. Messed up a knee falling but I guess the key is to not fall.
Snowboarding is rather difficult I have heard. Leave it for the young guys.

Ross I didn't ski although if I had to do it over again I would have.  Haven't done any skiing since I got into snowmobiling in the early 90's. If my son sticks with it I'll probably get back in it next year. Only about 10 minutes from Afton alps. Unlike you can't snowmobile out my back door.

You can rent cheap skis/boots/poles or go into Aftons ski shop and rent (demo) top of the line stuff !
http://www.aftonalps.com/lift_tickets_rentals.php

Ski's have changed big time sence you last skied ...
Get (demo) a pair of Vokl or Dynastars SL's, you don't even have to ski ... they'll do it for you ...LOL

We would go on week nights, and kid in shop would let us try every model they had, until we found our favorite.
Top of the line skis/binding go for about $1000 to $1200,  so $30 four or five times a year is pretty cheap.
Hardest part is going back to my old skis after some WC SL's ...

The sleds, crosscountry skiis, and skates are long forgotten, along with the interest and ability to use them, and find their way to Craigslist to fund another interest. That's called recyling.

My new winter sport is snowplowing paths in the back yard to the bird feeders and paths on the side of the house to the garbage and recyle barrels.

Kip
Are they 195 cm ?
Good ski in it's day ...
Favorite ski was alway Rossignol ... until the Volkl demo ...
Skied Harts as a kid, wore out a pair or two !

Dave
My knees can last a few hours before i have to call it quits ... LOL

Gregg - They are 185's. Started out on Hart Gremlins, also had a pair of Hart Billy the Kidd.

Dave - Snowshoeing is a great winter sport that's good excercise while not being too hard on any of the body parts. The woods are soo peaceful in the winter and there's no bugs!

Looks like we got more snow coming here in a day or two.

About 3 pair of Hart Hornets, Hart Comps and Hart Freestyles.

Use to ski 5 days a week and race on the weekends.
Tryed a pair of Rossignol Strato and never looked back ....

Hung out in the Chalet huh? JK I know your son is young so you musta hung out on the hill with him.
Afton is where I have done most skiing but now its about 10 minutes to Wild Mountian but do you think I've been there in 11 years? NOPE. Need a woman that would like that kind of thing and is push enoough to get me out of the house...or just a woman period.  ;D

I bet they have changed alot. I think the wide ones had been around a few years before I quit. What are those called? Its on the tip of my tongue.
I  have some K2's I picked up at a year end clearance once, then had to buy some bindings.. They sure look beat up for being so new. Too much falling and crossing of skis. LOL

My main winter sport will be walking the neighborhood streets in my Walmart rubber straps around-the-shoe, tungsten carbide tips on the sole to prevent falls. Walking is cheap, close to home, never crowded, and boring. Hey, we are only filling time until spring when the fun begins.
