Anyone know a good place to get a carburetor GM carburetor 7000193?
I can see refurbished or used ones on E-Bay for about $199 but when we were out on Forest Lake Sean was talking about $50 getting the job done. Would the $199 be about right for buying a completely new carb and the $50(ish) would be for a rebuild kit?
This is for my '73 V-174 Bayflite with my 4cyl Mercruiser i/o.

The new carbs are not new. They are rebuilds and sierra is the only one, that I can find, that rebuilds them. I bought one and returned it because they did such a crapy job. Sierra is only sells worthless junk. The Carb Shop in maplewood does a really nice job of rebuilding these if you want it done right. They did mine and it's been running great ever sense.

Try calling him too. He's a one man deal. Not real sure how much he checks his email. He should be able to get it done quick if you need it done soon.

Just called Patrick at the Carb Shop and all it'll take is unbolting the carb from the boat and bringing it to him. Should be roughly $200 and a week turn around.
I had mentioned that I needed to use Sea Foam last year and he said to never use it! He said it's great for removing build up but if you ever run out of fuel (like I did) all that sediment the sea foam removed will just get sucked into your carb and kill it.
Thought I'd pass that along.
Now if it ever stops raining so I can unbolt the carb I should be good to go!

Josh did you have to say that? You are the second person that I know that has been informed not to use sea foam in the fuel system! I am starting to get a little nervous, I just put some in my tank to clean the fuel system up, and have only burned off a quater of a tank. :P but and can say it is running better

Yeah, mine ran great too the Saturday of Red Wing last year and up until running out of gas on White Bear this summer. Then it ran like crap on Forest Lake (thanks again Sean!).
Just never run out of gas or maybe flush the tank? Patrick suggested that while he rebuilds my carb (hoping I can scrape the money together before Red Wing) that I flush my own tank. Not sure how, but maybe this weekend or next week sometime.

Why not add in a fuel filter to catch some of the gunk before it hits the carb? I took my tank out and coated the inside, and I'm still getting some rust in an inline filter I put in... I also have a spin on fuel filter/water separator that came from the boat I got all the v8 stuff out of.

I have been thinking about adding a second filter, but i do keep a spare filter on the boat for the one on the fuel pump and have not seen anything in that filter yet. Honestly, with the density of the media on the fuel pump filter, i just cant phathom how anything can get by it. But i think anything is possible.

I know my tank isn't clean. when i got the starflite the tank was empty and I had to put a sender in it. Had a nice layer of surface rust on the top of the tank.

I used a outboard primer bulb and hose to drain my tank of unknown gas from PO.
Your welcome to use it to drain your tank into gas cans, or what ever.
Get it going and it gets most of it out ... tippin' and shakein' boat to get a little more.
My tank was cleaned and coated about 4 years ago ( have work order and looks pretty good looking down fill tube).
Sea foam is great for maintaining a clean fuel system, but you need a clean system to start with or it might do more harm then good.
