Title: Mercruiser Outdrive - Worth Anything?
Post by: dgmeyer on March 18, 2013, 09:21:08 PM
I have another project going and got a whole boat in order to get a windshield.  It's a 1968 16' Mark Twain that had the 4 cyl 120HP Mercruiser I/O.    The motor was pulled but the outdrive is there.   Is this worth anything to anybody or should I just junk it?   Believe it or not, this year Mark Twain did not have a drain plug for the hull.  This boat has been sitting outside so the hull had a lot of water in it that has to have been freezing and thawing over the years with some of the outdrive parts underwater.  I'm not trying to make money on this - I just don't want to scrap it if it has some value to someone.  I guess the prop is worth something???

I would pull the oil drain plugs to see what comes out. If it's good oil then it could be worth a buck. Pull the drive to see what the drive shaft yoke and universal joints look like. Is there a skeg or is it broken off?

There's a skeg - it's just stuck down in the mud.   I'm going to harvest some more hardware this Friday so I can get a better look.   I'll probably just cut around the transom with my sawsall and throw it in the back of my truck.

I would think it might be good for some parts if nothing else. Hopefully, someone can use it.
