Title: CGOE tour 2017
Post by: dorelse on January 09, 2017, 09:50:13 AM
So...we have a few confirmed visitors to the 10th Annual Meet in Red Wing.  (Very exciting!)

There has been a request...they're looking for any and all boat graveyards in the area so that they can explore and see what's out there.  Any bone yards still around up there?

Also they're looking to meeting up with any and all area members that might like to hang out and accompany them to said boat yards, explore any dealerships, generally, just absorb the boating life in MN.

I'm not sure if that graveyard is still open?  Any other places or ideas on where they could go?

Chime in!  I'm sure they'd love to hear ideas!!!

Not sure if Tim's (Grantsburg) is still open ?
Don talked about one in the northern suburbs.

Heck, I'd like to do that also, but didn't know any yards existed.   My yard, however, is beginning to take on that persona.

I was thinking the other day. If a few people wanted to they could rent a houseboat and slip it at TI. I could help drive to and from if they would like.  Beanies on the St Croix has one they rent. 1500 aprox for 3 day weekend split by 6 people would be 83 a day thats way cheaper than a hotel. You would also have gas and slip fee though, I would guess that would be another 250 or so depending on how much gas they use. If you want to experience boat life thats the way to do it.

From their web site http://www.boatingatbeanies.com/houseboat.html (http://www.boatingatbeanies.com/houseboat.html)  houseboat is designed to sleep 10 people. The legal limit for this boat is 12 overnight guests. Please add $50.00/ night per person for each guest in excess of 10. The boat is equipped with 4 sleeping rooms, 2 bathrooms (one with shower), two refrigerators, a full kitchen and living room, central heat and air, front deck with a gas grill, upper sun deck with fly bridge, and water slide.

Alma Marina also rents them. They are a little further down river on the bottom side of Lake Peppin.

There may be a few others but I just knew of these off the top of my head.

The 2-4 hour drive to the north shore of MN between Duluth and Canada is a must if you have the time. The entire area should be a national park as far I am concerned. Depends how much time you have though. Otherwise Minneapolis around St. Anthony Falls/Stone arch bridge is a cool area. Minnehaha falls. Skip the Mall or America..... It's just a really big mall.

I'd disagree on skipping the MOA...if you've never experienced a Mall in your home country...this is the one to see.

I disagree also, It is just a huge place you have to go see even if you only walk in and walk back out. Amber had never been there until we had our trip in December to pick up Ben's old boat. She really enjoyed it. If we would have had the time Amber wanted to go to the aquarium in the basement.

I'll have my cruiser slipped on Minnetonka this summer so if you guys want to go for a boat ride in the evening during the week let me know. Lot's of places on the lake to grab an adult beverage and some food while you people watch! Way better than the MOA. ;)

Guess to us local twin cities guys the MOA is just another mall. I am sure if we were going to Germany and looking for advice you'd say skip the castles.

There used to be one on HW 65 just south of Isanti, but he sold the property a couple years ago, supposedly he moved his "stock" to another location farther North, don't know where or if he's still open.

I would be all in for a day on Tonka.
I'm not sure if our guest would consider a day in Kip's cruiser. :P
As noted, he did not post the brand  :o

Not certain the thread stayed on point, but my question would be how much time do they have, and what do they want to see?  I'm not against malls, but my assumption is these are Glastron folks who wanted to be around Glastrons in the water or grabbing some parts maybe from boneyard Glastrons?  I love the auto boneyards, never been to one that specialized in boats except for repair places back lot areas.

Update this thread if you know of any more bone yards. An address/phone number would be helpful.

Is Tim going to make it this year and if so, what boat will he be bringing?

Not sure what Tim's status is for the event.  His GT is at Trent's apparently getting the Merc 115 TOP worked on.  The 460 for his 23 needs some time to assemble the long block, redo the pump, and some other stuff.  He has that slated as a winter project.   I've offered to have him ride up with me and split fuel costs, but have not received any confirmation one way or other.

Guys,
I was wondering if someone can help me out with something. I want to order online several parts (small one's should fit in my luggage) to take home so I can safe on tax and shipping, and was wondering if somebody can help me out with recieving those parts so When we are in the states we can pick them up at your place. hope some one is willing to help me out.

Thanks  :)

Possibly someone on the forum can do this, but I travel quite a bit, and my hotel(s) have always been able to accept, hold, and even deliver packages to my room.  The more difficult problem I've found is purchasing something online, and having it shipped to a different address than the credit card billing address.   Maybe that has changed, but it was always a fraud alert to my credit card company.

Roadtrip: A drive South of Redwing to Winona, then cross river into WI and head back north. Lots of neat small towns with shops, cafes, bars, parks, trails, overlooks, etc. I think you guys would really enjoy it. Pretty popular with bikers and convertibles!

Buena Vista Park in Alma has awesome views.
