Title: Fiberglass refinishing and painting - non-boat
Post by: rmorit01 on October 31, 2017, 10:43:25 PM
Hello all,

I was hoping for some advice refinishing and repainting a fiberglass topper that I found on craiglist.  I have been looking for a shortbed topper for my 2004 Tacoma for nearly 3 years and finally found one.

I know boats are gelcoat but any tips for prepping and re-painting a fiberglass topper?  Shops in my area quote about $550 to paint but I am unsure if they would do it correctly...plus I'd like to save some cash.

Attachment is a bad camera phone shot but shows the damage.

Really no different than refinishing a fiberglass car, corvette or VW buggy comes to mind.  Will need an additive for flexibility(similar to bumpers) but standard car finishes will work.   Honestly, if they will color match to your vehicle for $550.00 then that is a dang good price.
