Title: 1979 CV27 Project Wanted. Update, Thanks to Jeff I found my project!
Post by: C512Jim on February 20, 2018, 09:53:47 AM
I know this is like looking for a needle in a haystack, but wondered if anyone knows of any around.  I live in north west Lower Michigan (Traverse City) and not opposed to travel to find the right one.  There was one that sold in Minnesota recently, that is what I was interested in, can even be in rougher condition.  I would also be open to one that is not needing a lot of work if the price is right.  Thanks in advance for all the great input the members here offer.  Jim.

There is one over in the north part of the Detroit area. I talked to him a few weeks ago think he still has it.

Certainly a neat craft, and not many exist.  Mike's is the only one I know of.

Yes, they do seem very rare.  Anyone know how many were actually made in 1979?  I agree the 1981 that is on your club's videos sure is a very nice looking boat.

This one ended up overseas a few years ago.

All I have ever seen is the 81 that Mike has in your gatherings, a couple 79's, and the one in the picture that is blue and white, guessing its a 1980.  Where there any other factory colors anyone has seen before?  Have never seen on in person but hoping to at sometime.

Jeff ( carlsoncvx18 ) would be the guy to talk to ... He has talked to or looked at almost every CV27 for sale in the last year or two.
He passed on all so far.
It isn't to bad to replace stringers / floor / transom / replace or repair one motor & drive / wet sanding, buffing gel and flake on a CVX16 or CVX18 ...
It would be a HUGE job to do it on a CV27 !
Just my 2 cents.

Thanks, Jeff has been great help in the search.  Nothing solid yet but agree the would be so much more work because of their size and layout.  Nice thing is there are alot of boats with the 260 mercs that can donate the drive system.

If it needs both engines/drives, you then have an option to go with counter rotation on port drive.  Most dual drive craft do that to negate the steering issues.

Never even thought about that, have never owned or drove a boat with dual drives.  I just assumed it would be that way like alot of other boats.

Thanks to Jeff's help and time I now have the CV27 from Lake St. Clair near Detroit Michigan living with my other carlsons and glastons here in northern michigan.  I really appreciate everyones help in this mission.  Now comes a ton of work. lol.  Will be very interested to talk to those that have done this metal flake color scheme with gelcoat and learn how it turned out.

Glad to hear you found a candidate for your dream craft.  Hope to see some project photos as you get into it.

Awesome! I can't wait to follow your project as well. I don't think any of us have seen a CV27 tear down and rebuild so this will be interesting for us all! Keep us updated!

Well, finally had a chance to look her over a bit and see imagine what it might be like to enjoy time on this particular boat.  Definately not a boat to live on for long periods of time. lol. Think its pretty much just a fun day cruiser, with the occasional brief overnighters.  Soon as it warms up here will do a few spot sanding and buffing to see if anything with the metalic can be saved and work on firing up the engines.  The story is both motors were replaced and not many hours on them, just mostly issues from sitting since around 2011.  I noticed it has the Alpha one outdrives so pretty sure both of them were replaced at sometime also.

Played around yesterday a bit with 600 grit and a little oxidation remover paste and actually think it might turn fairly good without having to redo the metalflake.
