Just turned down $1200 cash for my $300 Starflite!
« on: July 31, 2010, 11:43:46 AM »
Thought you guys would appreciate this more than most.....  Just got back from my usual Sat. morning outing, gets too hot by noon so I'm back in the A/C at home.  (Heat index today 105-110, soo tired of the extreme heat!)  The guy at the marina that has complimented the V178 several times made it a point to catch me while getting it all together after pulling out of the lake today.  Offered me $850 for the Starflite, which brought a quick "NO THANKS" from my lips.  He responded with "how about $1200 cash right now", I smiled and told him "I'm having way too much fun to take that offer, sorry."  His response was "you really don't want to sell it then, do you?".  NOPE, I guess not.  There's something seriously wrong with me - Hello, my name is Mark, and I'm a Glastroholic!

Just to FULLY support your decision, (as long as I'm thinking of the right boat), that rig should be worth several thousand...  Not just $1,200.

I just went back and looked at your rig and your video's...  I think that if you were to find a fabric skirt to go where your bildge compartment is, and if you were to rebuild that trailer, you might have a $3,500 boat.

The motor sounds very strong and responsive (not to mention it's the perfect size for that boat).  The seats look great, and the finish appears that it couls come back to like new.  As is, I wouldn't take less than $2,500 for that rig, and a redone trailer will push it over 3K, no question.

Don't give that boat away!  That is a great rig, and the guy that offered you cash new it!  He was hoping that you would bite on his low ball offer!  I used to own a V-173 with a 85 Johnson, so I know the quality of that rig!

You have a great boat!

Yeah!!! We need to stop trading these things so cheap. ('Cept to other members of course ...) Guy down here in Cape Coral has a nice origional family owned Scimitar for sale for 15K. Hope to heck he gets it.

I'd be a fool to think my model will ever appreciate much more than it already has, or should I say "hasn't". She ain't purty enough. But for my particular application she's a near perfect fit. Considering the wind & the waves around these parts she's a much more appropriate hull than a GT or CV/CVX. No offense ...

Well. That and I guarantee she'll smoke any comparably powered CV(X) or GT. 'Specially in a lil chop.

Bring it! Heh heh heh.

Hear ya Mark. $1200'd be way too lowball for me too. Difficult to set a price on smiles per gallon, or smiles per hour. And if'n ya did sell it for $1200 what wouldya replace it with?

Right on Doug!

As far as the hull goes, I would take my V-173 any day over my cvx-20 when it comes to waves over 2 feet.  One foot and under, I can get up and over them with enough speed, but 2 footers are mind numbing.  get into the 3 foot range, and I can't even get on plane.

However, my 173 would take the two footers with little more than a vibration.

I like "smiles per hour!"

The 300 to 1200 comparison is nice but you got it for nothing and enjoy it WAY too much to give it up for 1200 Glad you didnt bite. You'd just have to buy another and what would the wife say to that?  :o

Thanks for all the kind words guys, my 'tron & I appreciate it!  Most people wouldn't understand, but I knew you would.  She's a keeper, and I plan on doing just that.  Someday another candidate will show up on GCOD or somewhere so I can add to the enjoyment, but this one's home to stay.
