Good compression from a motor with "tight" tolerances can be heard in the exhaust note! Get it! ;D

I'm giving her the prop that I been running on the Scimitar, it was a 23 pitch before it made a few trips to the lab,  but it's a solid 24+ pitch I think, I think it will work for her, and I think it will come up to rpm, even though it will be 3" deeper in the water, the boat is shorter and lighter ... we will see.  Her drive was a 1.50 ratio, thats what the Alpha One is.

5000 RPM and 7% prop slip will put it right at 70.5 MPH. I'm guessing at the slip number but 7% is considered pretty good.

Hell .... Reds Scimitar did 70+ with a load of good old boys in MN and cornered faster than any of mine will do running flat out in a straight line!  Hmmm I think I need to RE-THING the big block thing!!  :o

To me this engine the short time we had it started up didn't seem any louder than the 350 that was in it previously.
OleRed has done a wonderful job building that engine and I feel fortunate that he has blessed me to have it.  I think he is the king of powerful small blocks for sure.  And besides that he's my hero.  I could never have had such an engine or the rebuild if it was not for him.
And yes I can tell the difference in the sounds between the 2 engines.  Don't let that girl thing fool you, I like my boat to run like a scalded a$$ ape and OleRed knows that.

No wake tower no way.  And yes that system will be able to be heard above the exhaust.  The only piece of that equipment that will be visible is the head unit. OleRed is in charge of power and I am in charge of audio and accessories.  I wired the amp in yesterday and ran all the power and speaker wires.  Just have a couple small things holding me back now from finishing. Going to have a whole new look around the instruments on the entertainment side of the dash.  I am also thinking of placing hidden LED lighting around in strategic places with dimmer switches.  I think that will be way nice on summer evenings when we stay out on the lake and watch the moon rise. Probably a few more surprises don't want to give them all away. We added a second battery and isolator switch just to power the amp and entertainment.

now, besides Glastron/Carlson boats, and massive amounts of horsepower, here's something I can really appreciate!  ;D

I spent quite a few years building competition stereos (turning new cars and trucks into a vehicle for the stereo, rather than a stereo for the vehicle) and although I probably lost half my hearing in the process, I really enjoyed it, especially custom installs. I plan on puting together a worthy system for the Scimitar, but it certainly looks like you've got a nice set-up there!   :o  bring on the high amp alternator!

Wow Barb .. I got to go to WalMart in the morning and buy me a bigger hat, I don't think anyone has Ever referred to me as a hero ... but keep it up ... I haven't drawn up your Bill yet.  I do appreciate the nice things some of you have said about me here, but I got to say, again,  I'm no expert on these old boats, or these motors, but I have worked on a bunch of em,  I have made some mistakes along the way, trying something new, a little experimenting, but life would be boring for me if I wasn't working on a boat.

I got to tell you guy's something about Barb, it has been a nice experience for me working on her boat, couple reasons, she does a lot of the work herself, she cleans up behind the dirty work, she Ain't no sissy, not afraid of getting dirty, she watches what I'm doing to learn, ask's what she can to to help, rather than tell me how to do it, and Often, she is handing me a tool to use before I even know I need it .. thats kinda neat, and she don't like cutting corners to save a buck, she loves her boat, just like the rest of us, and she wants it done right, and if it takes a little longer got get it right, she understands.   Barb brings her own "tool purse" and has some really neat tools, and helps me keep up with the one's I just layed down.

We will get the lower unit back tomorrow, put in a new impeller, mount it to the new drive, and probably align the motor and drive Thursday, a tenitive schedule is to give it a lake test Saturday.  and Yes .. I'll bet your won't have any problem hearing the Tune's over the exhaust, and Yes again, she is doing all that part by herself.. she certainly understands wiring .. she done that for about 32 years.

I hate seeing collector items hacked up for something as simple as a stereo.  Now adding new technology in a stealthy fashion, that is pretty darn cool!

I like the idea of subdued LED lighting.  I look forward to hearing about the other electronic goodies you are sneaking in.

Great job Barb! You too Red. Looks awesome!

Granpappy Jack always ordered his Plymouth Furys 'radio delete'. I remember him saying on several occasions "the radio distracts the driver". I recall he wasn't too fond of what he deemed unnecessary gauges & other interior gadgets either ...

Anyway I agree the stealthy approach to tunes & lighting is the only way to fly. With todays technology there's no reason for a speaker, or light fixture to be visible. 'Specially on a classic boat. Guess if I had a bigger model I might have tunes too. But with this one I'm content to listen to the motor. Plus tunes weigh ...? Heh heh

The only way that I would put another hole in Burnin Daylight is if I was shooting at the ba$tard that was messing with it and missed.
By the way it has a pioneer cassette player in it thats been in there since before I bought it 16 years ago.  I am going to be creative and close that hole up some to fit the Kenwood ipod/mp3/cd player that weighs 2.5 pounds into it.  There is also a mechanical clock in the dash that is coming out and I have another fashionable little purpose for that cutout.  When I am done people will be copying it.

I'm going to enjoy the heck out of it.  I go to Lake of the Arbuckles nearly every weekend from March til Nov.  I have a little place down there and its about a 2 hour drive from home.  Old Burnin Daylight has always been a work horse for skis and tubes and etc.... She has raised a couple of families on the water and will continue to be used just like she was before.

Andy, that man cave of yours is looking Great !
Yes, it's really Kool to see this baby coming together, the last two day we have rolled it outside and worked on it in the sunlight.  This Oklahoma weather is the only issue we have had, last two day's have been Beautiful, sunny 70's today and tomorrow,  but Sunday, more weather coming in, high's in the 20's and 30's all next week, low's predicted 5 to 9 degrees, so we are pushing pretty hard to get it ready for a lake test tomorrow.

I got the drive installed yesterday, really looks good on there  ( Barb forgot to take a pic )  ::)
I got the nose cone on the lower unit ground to form last night and started the epoxy fill, will get that finished and installed today, then get the front seats mounted for the lake test.

Looking goooood!!

A bit more of a point than you put on your drive isn't it?  Nice.  I assume you weld on a aluminum spine then fill it with epoxy?

Hi Chris, yes, welded on the point, then filled it in with the 5 minute epoxy weld stick, I didn't measure the two, it may be a little longer.

It's about ready for the lake test tomorrow, I just put the front seats in for the lake test, we will finish up with the carpet, next week, Barb has a few more little, things, she wants to add this baby for the Red Wing show ... this is a fun project, I never know what she's gonna come up with next.

She did find out how Sharp the leading edge's of the prop is today.

Check out the second picture .. I'm gettin some wild idea about this pic.
