First ride of 2011
« on: January 08, 2011, 08:37:06 PM »
The weather down here in south Louisiana was perfect today. Clear blue sky, mild breeze and 61 degrees. Water was about 5 or 7 feet low. The water temp was around 58. Very cold to the touch. There were several boats sitting in the mud at their slips. One party barge was completely on dry ground.

Attached are some links to three YouTube videos I shot while running today.

First time inserting links so let me know if they don't work.

That felt good, thanks for the ride.  (Only one link played, part 2 - but you can click the other two from there.)

Thanks for fixing the links. New to this and learn as I go.

I re-installed the power trim unit Thursday night and was up until about midnight purging the system so I could take it out Saturday morning. The trim issue all started when I wanted to take it out Christmas Eve and all I got was "Click" on the solenoid. Took the motor off the res and got it running again. Just a little rust film from a bad gasket.

After re-installing the motor I had no movement of the engine. Wonderful!  So, I decided to pull the entire trim system, not bad at all, and rebuild. Found out that this system (Calco style motor and res) has a nylon sleeve that couples the armature shaft to the pump shaft. Appears that when I initially pulled the motor off the res the coupler came off the pump shaft, so no connection.  I flushed all the lines and cylinders and added new fluid. Works like a charm now.

If anyone has an issue with this type of trim unit, don't give up too quick because the steps I took could get you up and running again for less than $25. I found a new place to order parts from that is only 2 day shipping time and have really good prices and service. L & M Marine just outside of Mobile, AL. www.lmmarine.com   Had everything I needed. Ordered Monday night and had it Thursday.

I'm working on another post of my finds at Tahoe boats in Manor, TX over New Years weekend. Quite a selection of Glastrons on the property. Just need to shrink the photos down to post.

You could use a Picasa or Photobucket account to post your pictures, it resizes for you and won't take up space on the server.
