Pics from Sunday
« on: September 12, 2011, 05:02:08 PM »
Well after replacing my 2yr battery that lasted two years and two days. The boat wouldn't fire. So naturally I pulled the cover and started poking around. Yanked the plugs, looked good. Checked gap, shuffled em around & put em back in. Was about to go round up a neighbor to help me check for spark but got the bright idea to check the kill switch. Don't ask me how but that dang thing was pulled just enough to break contact. Reset the clip and boom! She fired right up. Duh!

I've known since numb nuts mounted the motor the controls weren't adjusted right. Got lucky and ran into a buddy at Snake Island who's an OMC OB guru. In return for a liquid bribe he agreed to have a look. Soon as we pulled the cover he said yikes! This is wrong & that's wrong, etc. However with the use of only a slotted screwdriver & small crescent wrench. He made the necessary adjustments. Took her back out, with him onboard and holy crap! Was definitely not getting WOT before!

He wouldn't admit it but think I skeered him a lil flyin the bow in the ditch. I noticed he had a white knuckle grip with his right hand on the oh sh*t handle and his left was clamped to the windshield frame ...  Anyway he told me to order new bushings for the linkage & then he could really dial it in. As it stands I did not have my GPS on board but the boat feels and sounds like it's about 10mph faster ...  Heh heh heh

Check my edit. Text kept disappearing when I tried to post?

Not to nitpick Jerry but the motor is actually an Evenrude. We just thought the Johnson stickers looked better against the Yammi paint?

Old speed 51 plus 10 = 61 MPH. I'd better start working on a 150 HP Mercury version of the in-line 6 six, jack plate, chopper prop, and strip interior to keep up with your Baja. Or put two in-line Mercs side by side on the back. Or one or two 300 HP outboards. I'll figure something out.

Yo David no need to go to extremes. I said it felt like 60. And I've been known to exagerate sometimes...

All's I can say is she's noticably quicker. I'll have the GPS onboard this Sunday so we'll find out. Hope to have the new linkage bushings in by then too.

Take care

The "cabin cruiser" is long forgotten.

This quote from Doug four days ago.  "I've been thinking. Considering my advancing age & busted up body, and the fact that my gastroentonologist named his new helicopter after me. Mebbe I should slow down a bit? Can pick this cabin cruiser up cheap. Wuddya think?"

A good boat is healing medicine for the body and spirit.

In Doug's case, it may be "a fast boat is healing medicine for the body and spirit."

Ain't that a fact Dave. Y'know crazy as it sounds when I'm haulin a** it helps clear my head? I have a theory about this phenomena as well btw. Goes like this: When you're pushing the envelope and doing your best to keep the boat on an even keel & not kill yourself all those other petty day to day thoughts and worries disappear ...?

Manatees beware!!!!!!
I'll have you know I spotted one about 75' directly in front of me south of the Venice Ave bridge Sunday. Slowed down to idle and steered toward the center of the channel. Tried to alert a couple of boats that caught up from behind but apparently my pointing at the water and trying to immitate a Manatee didn't convince them as they just blew by. Don't think anybody hit it but the second boat couldn't have missed by much.

While it's true myself and many others consider the West Indian Manatee a non-native invasive species, which it is. I don't think anyone would intentionally run over one. Wish a plague on them yes, but not purposely hurt one. I reserve my hatred for their phony baloney so-called benefactors. And the empty headed do-gooders who think by supporting the Save The Manatee Club they're doing anything other than line Jimmy Buffetts pockets.
