New Package Delivery...
« on: February 25, 2012, 04:17:12 PM »
Thanks to Rich...found a decent deal on a Mercuiser shifter.  Could have gone newer I suppose, but like the idea of this look in the boat, and I'll now have a functional Neutral safety start switch again.  Last year was band-aid after band-aid to get Goldie on the water.  This spring I plan to focus on getting the safety systems working correctly.  (Ignition cut-off switch.)

And maybe...working power steering...that'd be nice too.

You're welcome dude! I'm using the same control and I like it better than any of the new ones. Let me know if you need any help with the installation, PM me or just give a call.

I'd say as long as you got controls new enough to have the trim on the throttle handle(which you do) your good to go. The original sytem with the trim controls separate from the throttle handle is an ergonomic nightmare. Well it's not that bad, but close! ;D........LOL

Yep, I think I'm good.  This has a 3rd switch hidden on the inside for the trailer button too.  It doesn't have the emergency cut off dongle on it, but...I'll just add that to the side of it...no biggie.

I currently have the old Morse controls with the 3-button separate switch.  I also don't like that the throttle is so low.  With this lever angled out, I'll be able to mount it higher up in a more comfortable position.

AAHHHH....
Yep ...
Never had/used one but looks like a nightmare !
The one (trim buttons) on the steering looks like a better idea ... but the one in the handle is the best ...

TH Marine has aftermarket trim tilt buttons that attach to the end of the throttle control, a much improved system of adjusting the motor angle while keeping the hand on the throttle.

The 1988 Mercury has the trim tilt switch built into the throttle handle.

Honestly...I"m planning on putting one back on mine too.  I can power my phone and use the GPS on it that way...so Jerry's not too far off there.  (Or I suppose I could put a USB Port on the dash.)

I had the separate T/T switch on the CVX-18... no fun. it was either throttle up and then trim to the sweet spot, or, trim up and then throttle up. I'm guessing you had the trim in the handle on the CVZ-19 like I did, and can really appreciate the difference.

The PO of my GT 150 put the trim/tilt switches in the ski-locker/center "console" ...

The crappy part was standing outside the boat while it's on the trailer and not being able to reach
the controls without getting in the boat.  Having them available for the left hand is ok, but to trim & throttle at the same time leaves nobody holding the wheel ...

I got parts in the mail, too !  Just showed up yesterday.  I'll have to get them cleaned up and polished before I put them on.
Haven't seen the center GT emblem like this one before ... came off the same make and model - '79 GT 150.  Mine is just the flat disc.

Mine are switches on the left of the main console as well, just about three inches too far away when standing next to the trailer. :-/ I blame my height instead of the boat design! ::)

That's what your knees are for! ;D......LOL

MerCruiser sells a transom switch for the Alpha 1 and newer drives. Install is a snap as its plug and play. Best $40 you can spend if you can't reach the trim control standing beside the boat when it's on the trailer.

Some days I should have just stayed in bed.

Spent the afternoon figuring out the new shifter & cables and disconnecting them (calling Rich twice!!) ...only to realize that they're the right length and I could have just used them already hooked up to the shifter!

Ugh!   >:(
