Starting A New Job
« on: April 20, 2012, 09:03:44 AM »
I'm breaking back into the boat business again! From August 2000 to July of 2010 I worked as a mechanic for a boat shop but because of owner-mechanic conflicts I left the shop to work for a Power Sports dealer to work on SeaDoo and other jet-ski watercraft as well as some power equipment and motorcycles. Well after having the entire winter off because of slow business I was getting antsy. Instead of waiting to be called back to the Power Sports shop at start of watercraft season I landed a new job working for another boat shop that sells and services boats and is an Evinrude E-Tec dealer. I'll be starting tuesday April 24th as a part-timer working 3 days a week which will still give me time to continue my "side jobs".

Congratulations, Rich.  I have been out of my field for a while, too, so I can understand your eagerness and share in your enthusiasm.  I look forward to reading your updates.

Great news Rich ... Back to your true love !
The Evinrude is one "Hi Tech" motor ... will you have to go to E-tec school ?
But  "Hi Tech" is the price we pay to keep 2 cycle motors on the water ...

Thanks guys!

Just finished my second week at the new job and oh what fun I'm having working on outboards again! I must have seen a dozen small kicker motors so far, an E-Tec 30hp with water in the fuel injection system, a 60* 90hp Johnson remounting & rigging to a boat, and the real odd-ball - a Force 150 5 cylinder engine being removed to install a new E-Tec 130. A few of the motors to come thru are just plain dogs and while the engines ran they wouldn't come apart to do a simple water pump replacement making them not cost effective for the customer. Fun Fun Fun! ::)

Here's a link to the shop where I'm working. You'll laugh when the site loads and you hear the most annoying theme song ever.  :D

HA HA ...
Rows of Etec's are SWEET !
Been a Honda owner for the last 40 years (mini bikes, motorcycles, cars, power equipment) but have heard not great things about there outboards, high maintenance, heavy, cost ...
Wonder what you think about them after work with/on them for awhile.

Ya get to test drive em ?
To make sure everythings workin' right ...
... LOL

Worked on a few of the small Hondas, less than 10 hp. From what I understand the big ones use the same engine blocks that you would find in a Honda car. I think if I was going to get a four-stroke outboard I'd go with a Yamaha but those E-Tec two strokes look purty damn good. I haven't gotten to take any of them for a ride, they haven't let me out of the shop yet.  ;)
