I discovered an ear on the alternator for the 175 was cracked and eventually fell of after I pulled the motor and I took it a guy to see if I might be able to just get a front case for it. I guess if he could get it, it would be about 95.00, so now I am thinking about either a new one or getting this one welded. I thought about getting it welded originally but thought, if it failed, the consequences would be bad if out on the water, BUT way more serious stuff then this gets welded and doesnt fail. Anyone see a reason not to do it? Maybe the material wont weld good? I dont even know if the alternator is good. I suppose the plan of attack should be get it tested first, then welded.
I am looking around for new ones, just in case.
