Although I use treated for bunks, I know what Jerry means. I've had that stuff twist up like a pretzel. Personally it seems to me letting it dry without being under a load (boat) would be worse. The last ones I did, I installed them as soon as practical after getting them home and wrapped in carpet. On one trailer they are on end and on another, they are laying flat. I guess if they warp, you can always go to regular Pine or fir. Yes they will rot but how soon? For the amount of time they are in the water, I would think it would take years. 2 advantages of cedar...light and rot resistent. Smell good too. Not like spoiled milk.
What about that man made stuff for decks? Too expensive?
I bought carpet from some place on line that is cut specifically for bunks. Just have to watch the lenght of the roll comparred to your bunks.
