Invasive Species Sticker
« on: May 01, 2012, 03:55:31 PM »
When you get your new stickers they give you a nice little (not that little) sticker that they tell you to "Display the decal on all watercraft prior to launching" It does not have to be in the view of the driver.

OK I got mine on

There If the ask to see it I can show it to them.

That should hold them A-holes screwing up my boat with a stupid "WEED STICKER"

Why not on the winch stand of a trailer and not on the boat at all ?... seems to me the only way to transport a boat from one body of water to the next (in a way that the invasive species cannot travel on their own) is to haul it out of the water and trailer it somewhere else.

Ha ha ha ha ha!!! Good one Jerry! Hee hee hee

Hey isn't the govt sposed to use our tax dollars to protect us against and/or rid our waterways of invasive species? Now they wanna fine (read Tax) you for not doing their job for them, wtf?

Never seen one up close, are Zebra Mussels cute'n fat? If so yer in trouble. But I'm guessing not, since there doesn't appear to be a bunch of whiny environmentalists trying to save them ...

We dont have many problems with invasive crustaceans, yet. But here in FL we're prohibited from interacting(?) with, feeding, or touching marine mammals. Or 'molesting' them in any way. The invasive West Indian Manatee in particular.

Screw all that BS, when this thirsty looking mammal swam up to the boat awhile back I fed it. Tbk I entertained thoughts of molesting it too ...

Zebra mussels are small, but plug everything up Eurasian milfoil can take a lake over in a couple years and kill everything . The new one is Asian Carp. They're working their way up the Mississippi, and eat everything in sight. Send we a manatee.

I dunno Jerry. Much as I dislike Manatee I wouldn't throw one in with a buncha asian carp. Hate those csers even more? Plus the Manatee wouldn't like the cold water ...

You might not believe this but we actually have coyotes running around Venice. Heard they're on Manasota Key too. Boca Grande as well. Lock up yer bunnies'n puppies'n kittens y'all!

Good news is coyotes are considered a 'nuisance species' by the state. Which means, if necessary, you can whack one with extreme prejudice. Been oilin' up the Mini 14 but that might be overkill. Mebbe the 10/22 or .17HMR would be more humane?

In all seriousness considering the havoc those carp, etc are causing in yer neck of the woods shouldnt there be a standing 'shoot or spear on sight' order out on 'em?

I read somewhere that those gd stickers don't have to be stuck to our boats. I swear I read that we can laminate them, punch a hole in it and hand it somewhere in the boat. Actually, I'm pretty sure it was in the boating booklet our wonderful mndnr puts out.

On page 23 of the 2012 MN boating guide it says must display decal on watercraft before launching, entering into, or operating on any waters of the state.  I like Jerry's idea.

Classic and antique boats should be except. That is just wrong to force people deface a classic. Image how the classic car owners would react if they had to put a big sticker on the side of there 61 lincoln.

Tim - You're not making it up...straight from the MN DNR's website:

http://news.dnr.state.mn.us/2012/04/05/new-required-aquatic-invasive-species-rules-decal-for-boaters-now-available/

"The decal should be attached to all types of watercraft including canoes, kayaks and duckboats before launching on, entering into, or operating on any Minnesota waters.

The two-piece, gray-and-black decals detail new state laws that watercraft users must follow in order to avoid spreading aquatic invasive species such as zebra mussels, Eurasian watermilfoil and spiny waterfleas.
The decal must be attached to the watercraft, but state law does not specify where that must occur. DNR officials recommend displaying it where it can be read and can be shown to an officer upon request. However, the decal does not need to be in view of the operator (as is the case with the state’s personal watercraft decal), and it does not need to be placed near the watercraft registration decals.

If a watercraft owner does not want to stick the decal on the boat because it is an antique wooden boat or other unique boat, the decal can be attached or laminated to an object like a luggage tag and kept in the boat."

No invasive sticker from the Coast Guard.  Got my annual CG safety check done today so I'm legal for Lake Michigan.  Just a windshield sticker indicating I passed the inspection.

Would I need such a safety course if I wanted to launch my CV23 on Lake Superior?

I don't think so, but I would ask the C/G in Duluth, or you would love Bayfield WS.
