Are you going to sand blast the trailer first or just paint over what is there. If you do paint over it will show again in a year or so more than likely

No, no plans to sandblast the trailer.

Think "Facelift in Mexico" vs. "Facelift in Beverly Hills".

The number of structural failures on the steel framing should be sending a loud message.

I have used it a few times. BUT, if you don't blast it and give it a coat of etching primer it's only going to last a year or two. I would touch it up with some flat black until you can tear it all apart, or get a new trailer, It's the old lipstick on the pig thing.

I'm currently contemplating Terry's extra trailer as a replacement.  Purchasing a brand new trailer just isn't in the cards.  (Kids think they need to go to college...silly stuff like that.)

I'd have to sell this one regardless so I'm continuing to work on it.  Sanded all the rust, washed it down and started with the primer and have 1 bushed on one coat of the Hammered Copper paint on it.  I have to say, I'm impressed with its ability to coat and cover over any imperfections.  Good stuff!

I still need to get the broken piece fixed.

I agree that its likely time to consider all options as a long term solution.  In the meantime, here are some progress pictures:

Primer:

1st coat of Hammered finish:

On bigger areas like the fenders, you can see the brush strokes.  Final coat will be sprayed on:

I'm new to the boat restoration but the hot rod guy's use POR 15 to coat there frames and metal parts to keep them from rusting and then paint over it for a finished look. it's suppose to last forever and is water resistant but brakes down in sunlight so that's why you have to paint over it. I don't see why it wouldn't work for boat trailers.

Por 15 is good stuff when it comes to bare metal and going over rust. But as mentioned you need to topcoat it.
I think this has become an addiction.

Just got an email form this guy he wants 300.00 but sounds pretty motivated to sell. Wants to sell the whole package though boat, motor, and trailer. Boat is a 1976 Kona has a Merc 115 on it ran last and used in 2010 but wasn't running right and he took it apart to fix it. He then said that he should have brought it in to get it fixed cause now its broke (what ever that means), Trailer doesn't look to bad though. Let me know if you want his number He lives in Lakeville by the Target on interstate 35
I think this has become an addiction.

It would cost less than $50 to dump the boat if you had to. Then you can part out the motor and get your $50+some back. It's not an aluminum trailer is it?

Thanks guys.  I'm going to stick with the devil I know.  By the time I get up there ($200 in gas) its a $500 trailer with a boat I'd have to dump.

Kert is going to weld it up and I'll be ready for Red Wing.

Ok, I've sanded and painted just about everything I can until I get down to Curt's to get it welded up.

(Curt - I'll PM you, but Tues-Thurs would work for me.)

I need to get the replacement rollers ordered too.

One of the dumb things the manufacturer did was leave the front piece without a drain hole (I drilled the center hole)...so it was full of crud and junk as it can fill up with water.
