GT-150 fuel tank / battery location
« on: August 04, 2012, 02:39:19 PM »
its kinda late in the day to be trying to figure this out... but
i'm putting the floor on my GT-150 tonight and was wondering if there is an advantage to making space for the fuel tank, and or the battery in the front where the ski locker goes, i saw 1 thread about someone installing a tank in the front of one.
also read somewhere that adding weight to the front can helpful on this boat.
if im gonna do it i would run line and battery cables under the floor.
thanks
Joe

My CV (from factory) has a copper fuel line runnin under side of deck and coming out of splashwell.
You'll also need a tank breather. Would be easy enough to do after boat is done.
I would run a 6 gal. fuel tank with a gal. or two of fuel in it, and put weight (sand bags) in front to see what happens to speed/handling.
My old V-156 liked weight in the back (2 - 6 gal. fuel tanks & battery) but GT's might not ... Don't know until ya try it.

Trick I learned from another member ... Put a shoe string ( cut peice of rag ) thru transom hole and into any water left in hull, it will wick out ...
Gets the last little bit out ... works great.

I don't know if I'd put the battery up there just because of how hard it would be to reach it and how frequently batts need attention, but I posted this in WetRaiders post so I'll copy it here.

"Do this! We put an http://www.overtons.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=Moeller-Marine-Fuel-Tank&i=39527&r=view&from=grid 18 gallon (sorry, can't figure out the hyperlink, html doesn't work apparently) in the bow on our old 150 rebuild and the weight distribution makes a HUGE difference. There's a lot of weight in the rear of those boats (motor, battery, T/T pump, anchor/whatever else ya got) and putting fuel weight in the front made our boat plane out much faster and also ran more 'level' when on plane.  I have no clue why they didn't do this stock from the factory; would have made the GT-150 a much more desireable boat in my opinion."

I have more pics of our rebuild if you want them for reference.

I got mine at Outboard Motor Recyclers It wasn't that much. I ran the steel line along the edge, with am electric pump, and Fuel filter.
