September 8th Red Rock Lake
« on: August 24, 2012, 01:53:13 PM »
Anyone up for a Red Rock Lake run Saturday Sept 8th? I've got a couple props I want to test out that Saturday. Lots of camp grounds around if you want to make a weekend out of it too. So, who wants to join me?

Honestly Curt...I better not have a fuel tank in my boat by that weekend.  I'm planning to winterize the boat soon and then begin tearing into the floor.

I might be able to make it ... Hopefully I've made it to Des Moines by then to pick up my gifts from Doran ...
Running right now without trim, but I could maybe get away for several hours.

Oh, and Doran, you've always told me you don't need to have a boat to show up when you've been invited ....

You can always use a temp fuel tank like some outboards use...  ;D

I've looked for a temp one honestly...but all the Red one for outboards use a 1/4" pickup & line whereas I need 3/8" to power the beast.

To try an move this along a little, I'm planning on putting in at Elk Rock Park on the Knoxville side of Red Rock. It is the nicest of the free ramps, it has nice wide ramps and a dock. The only downside is the parking area is gravel, so expect some dust on your tow rig. What time will work best?

Do you think you will have your tank and floor finished up for this Doran? It looks like you've got a good start on it.

Goldie's out of commission for the season.  I'm pulling the steering cable tonight, washing the fuel tank area down, getting ready for Bilgekote, fixing the drainage issue, etc.  Seats are out.  I'm pulling the old trim pump in favor of a new one.

I have to bring the tank down to Knoxville to get sealed, etc, etc.  Should make for a great season next year though.

For me, once school starts, I've got taxi duty for all the kids activities and a list a mile long of all the things I was supposed to work on over the summer.  (But ignored to work on Goldie instead.)

While the 8th looks open, I know that by the 7th, I'll have 6 things scheduled for that day.  Soccer games, Volleyball games, dance recital, church something or other, and some school project that the teacher thinks should take 20 mins for the kids to do, but in reality will take 2-3 hours and require a lot of assistance.  Its just that time of year.

Pencil me in as doubtful.

I'm still planning on going out the 8th. I'll probably be putting in at about 1:30pm. Weather so far is looking sunny with a high of 70... which means the water will probably be warmer than the air :o.

If I can get my chores done at the house, I'll see about meeting out there for a few hours.  The lake's about an hour away for me.  Haven't fixed my trim, yet, so no reverse.

Just swapped trim cylinders and bled the steering.  I'll be cleaned up and headed out about 12:15 or so.  Should put me there about 1:15.

Dan - What'd you think of Red Rock?  Looks like it was pretty quiet out there!

Doran,
The lake was nice... I thought it was very scenic, I'd love to go back with Courtney just to cruise.
It was pretty choppy, the wind was high.  Out in the open it was rough, lots of slapping hulls.  The fingers were pretty smooth.

Dan, it was nice to see you again and to see your boat this time. The interior is coming along really well. I might have to steal some of your ideas with the aluminum accents in the side panels.

The lake was pretty typical of how Red Rock is on any day there is wind. The main center portion was very choppy. I had a wave slam the front of my boat hard enough part of it came up over the bow and windshield and soaked my friend Jason riding shotgun. The large finger on the south of the lake was pretty smooth though, so we were able to open it up a little over there. My favorite time to go out on Red Rock is about an hour before the sun goes down because the wind and chop almost always clears up and it's nice and smooth out.

Looks like both boats are running great! I am going to have to get in some more IOWA boating one of these days.
