Looks to me that those cracks line up right with the mounts ...
If it were my boat, at the bare minimum, I'd swap that angle trim on the outside of the transom for something a little heftier.  That would be the cheap and easy way to add some peace of mind.  In my boat, I had a full wrap-around aluminum transom plate made - didn't do me a bit of good - I did a full rebuild the following spring.

My old 1972 V-156 had smaller cracks in the same spots ...
What I've learned from my CV is any spot that had/has a hole will leak water if not sealed properly ...
My holes for speedo pilot tube let water in and rotted wood all the way down ...
Your splash well drain is not seated and is draining into transom wood, Mine looks the same way and wood was rotted there also ...
The rear U bolts look like there also leaking ...
Would bet money your foam under floor is wet ...

I have pictures of other V-156's with floors and transoms out, if you would like to see what it looks like back/under there ...

The process is easier than you'd think.  But it's not always cheap, and it definitely takes time.  The resources on this forum are invaluable.

Go to CGOA and read Rich & Mark's rebuild threads ...
Can't remember his name and link but he has videos ... Doran help ... LOL
The more you understand about the process the easier it will be.
Don't understand some thing ... Ask questions ...
As Dan said ... It not that hard to do, just takes time and money ...

Heres Rich's floor/Transom job: http://www.classicglastron.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=75&t=147

Those cracks tell me something is flexing so it has to be the transom. Pull the gas tank out of the way, get a screw driver, and start poking.

The sportster has got to be most abundant and affordable old Glastron out there. Even in really nice shape...I'm just saying....

I also fly RC planes. I haven't seen a Sig Kadet in years. They were good trainers back in the 80's. I have a couple Sig planes as well, a Kavelier and a Skybolt. One of my favorite planes that I've been flying for over 20 years is a Goldberg Anniversary Cub, here's a link to a video featuring it:

Yes, that transom has seen better days and is flexing/compressing. It should probably be replaced. My V176 transom is worse than that and is cracking on the outside rear fiberglass as well.

Just my 2 cents worth. I know this has been a budget project for your family to enjoy. A wise old friend once told me an old boat with a motor and trailer is worth $300. You put hundreds of dollars, and hundreds of hours into it, and it's worth $300. I don't think it looks good,  but I don't think it looks that bad. You're not putting a big motor  on, so there won't be a lot of strain on the transom. I would put a 1 1/2" aluminum angle across the top of the transom and run it.  If you get a couple years fun out of it, you can decide what you want to do. I don't think it's unsafe.

I have to say, I agree with Jerry here. Just throw it on and it will last for years the way it is.

I agree with Jerry & Jason.

Reinforce the transom and have fun.
Your family needs will change in a couple years & you'll want a different boat.

I agree too. Maybe do some patching to prevent further leaks and throw some kind of reinforcing plate on there. Maybe you'll change boats by the time it is really in need or replacement. if not, do it then,, but I would do some patching to try to keep it dry.

My GT had 1/4" alum diamond plate panels inside the splash well and on the transom to help it along.

Don't forget a little 3M 4200 on the stainless steel bolts you put through the transom. You can use that to seal the other leaky bolts/screws in your transom too.
