Finally running
« on: May 20, 2013, 09:46:45 PM »
Finally got everything done on the V195 and had it running for a while. Should I run a  2nd hose to the back port on the manifold for water seems to get warm. But it might just not be getting enough water off the hose. Any thoughts
I think this has become an addiction.

Any ideas on the cooling for the manifolds. I still need to lake test and see if that makes a differance. Otherwise can I just put a T in the front port on the manifold and then run water in the back one that way. Also what about the very front port on the manifold that I am not using would this be better to use or doesn't it make a differance.

Honestly, not sure how those flow. My manifolds get warm but not the risers.

I don't know much about the flow either, but i do have an IR thermometer you can borrow to monitor while running, just LMK

Is the port on the front of the manifold capped? What is that for? I like the clear hose. Can you see water going through it?

There could be a clog inside the casting. I think Jeff had a similar problem but was causing engine overheating.

If you're not testing in a tank, you have no idea if your cooling system is working or not, and you have no idea if your water pump is working.
Mine is a Rubbermade http://www.rubbermaidcommercial.com/rcp/products/detail.jsp?rcpNum=4242-88  I got it at a garage sale for $15. We have also used it at any large events for a pop/beer cooler. I made a Cedar cover for it, just add ice,
Look around. If anyone wants to use mine they can come and get it.
Do it right!

Jerry I know there is some water going threw because of the clear hose as Jason pointed out. Not a lot but some( guessing I am sucking some air running off the hose) When it is running you can feel the manifold and the front is a lot cooler than the back. It slowly gets hotter from front to back. My guess is the water is just already warm by the time it gets to the back of the manifold and less cooling effect.  Yes I have the one inlet capped in the front. I figured that i could go into any of them on the front and get the same result.  Looks like a lot of manifold have 2 lines feeding them water. There is not another place to run a cooling line from so i would need to T off the front hose and run it to the back inlet. Or I would need to find another thermostat housing that has 4 cooling line ports on it.

Thanks for the offer Jerry but my boat sits to low to use a barrel or something. I may just go and back it in the lake tonight and see what it looks like.

Last when I give it gas it hesitates how do you adjust the accelerator pump on a 2 barrel Rochester carb. Assuming that is my problem. I rebuilt the carb and this is the first time it has had gas threw it. Any other adjustment that it could be. It seemed to work fine on the 18 but was dirty so I tore it apart, soaked it, and put a kit in it.

Thanks

Sure you got timing right? That could cause a hesitation.

Not familiar with rochesters.

should be fine. Like I said it ran fine in the 18 never changed anything. Just went threw the carb.

I can't make out the pictures of your manifolds, too big, but I think you need the correct thermostat housing for those manifolds, and  I think most of those style manifolds have a warm water flow to the block, meaning, the water from the supply line enters the thermost housing, but don't flow through the motor there, it runs through the manifold and back before it enters the block, to warm the water up some before it enters the block, and there is one port that run's a constant flow through the risers to cool the exhause before the thermostat opens.  If I could make out the pic's I would try to look up a flow diagrahm.

I've not seen any like that, looks like they were drastically modified, but if I were you, I'd pull the caps off the end of the logs and see how the water flow is routed to the riser, that way you can determine how they would cool.

Mine does it too... there's a split second of hesitation as the accelerator pump catches up... I was told there's a different kit available to fix it

I can't take a cap off there are steel bolts in aluminum manifold and they will not come out without ruining everything. The only modifications I (Joe) made were to weld the elbows on the back and weldd shut one of the return( I'm guessing) ports. Other than that stock.  I am guessing they came off a jet. The stock Glastron manifold I do not be leave had a return. It is a Glastron/Ford/Volvo engine drive setup

Not sure if this helps or not but recently found out my neighbor has a pair of mercruiser logs on a 302. They have been welded though. Might be able to get them for free. They are rear risers though.

NO I already have a set of merc logs they would not work. I am thinking it will be fine once in the lake and getting enough water but not sure. If it ever quits raining I will go and try it out.

I couldn't exactly remember what your problem originally was but remember now. I agree, throw it in the lake and see how she does.
