White Bear Lake Skis???
« on: May 26, 2013, 11:52:02 PM »
Found this old ski when cleaning out the cabin last weekend. Kind of cool. Not sure how old it is. Got to be 60-70's. It's in good shape and still useable. Anyone ever hear of a company in White Bear that made these?

I have a set I used for show with my Larson. They're white with red letters. Those look really nice.

I have an original Dick Pope, Jr ski from '77 when the original owner purchased my CVX. I had a heck of a time getting up on that thing. Had to do it once. Now it's a conversation piece on the patio.

My parents have a set of red White Bear Lake waterskis. Much older than the one in the picture. What my mom used to ski on. She called them "The Boards".

They look just like the water skiis I have, purchased in the 1960's. I have replaced the bindings. Still have my wood O'Brian from the 1970's also. Used to salom ski on Bald Eagle Lake Saturday mornings behind my Glastron V-153 and a friends V-156 both powered by 80 HP Mercury's.

They were made in White bear lake MN by the White Bear Water Ski Company.  I have a half dozen wooden skis on a wall with 2 WBL ones.  Ones a wood finish and the other red painted.  I had to really work on the guy for a decent price on the red one in his antique/salvage shop.  He said he rarely finds them and people usually scoop them up because they are the coolest looking and I agree.  Originally wanted $80 for the single ski!  I thought I saw an "under construction" webpage that was going to be dedicated to vintage skis about a year back.

Cool to know! I have no plans to sell it. We just sold our cabin in Rhinelander that's been in the family for 60 years. It will look great hanging in the Glastron Cave and will be a nice memory to the old cabin.

Is it a good thing that you sold it ?
long drive, but such a nice area, we used a friends cabin that was in eagle river several times over the past few years.
though its nice to have a place that only an hour away.

Long story. Basically was my grandparents. My dad and his 3 siblings inherited it about 10 years ago. Two wanted to sell (not us) and we couldn't afford to buy.........so yea, more not a good thing.

Eagle River/Three lakes area is still one of my favorite places to boat.

They're not going on a trailer, its a lake to lake transport/crossing...
