Trailer update
« on: May 22, 2013, 09:57:34 PM »
Trailer needed some hardware fixed that i did not get done when i converted to bunks, and it looked shabby.
Tore the trailer apart, sanded  rust off, welded steps on with tabs to hold fenders up when stood on.
Hopefully it will be dry tomorrow so i can paint it.

He's got time. I am sure it will look great when you are done with it. I painted Phoenix's trailer last year, and it is already showing signs of rust.

Your trailer looks the same as the re-build I did. Check the pics under General Discussion 1980 CVX.  Quote:  Re-made the trailer with a dropped axle and 2 x 3" frame I fabricated;  New springs and fenders from Omaha Wheel and Rim.  Used C-clamps to make axle adjustable.  Mustang 14" hubs fit on Shorelander with  a little bit of spacing.  Painted it with IH White w/hardner.  Had trouble with the flux AC welder getting it air tight.  I think it's sealed now.  Don't like drain holes.  When you're done jump on the front end to see if it flexes.  I added a 3" channel to the front.  You can see it if you maximize the pic.

I don't really know what i was thinking...
need it done tonight, and it will be.
the paint job is nothing to be proud of, and the mediocre prep... well it will look good this season so that's ok.
i used that "hammered metal" finish (on Shawn's advice) and am pleased with how it turned out, it cover's the ugly stuff well.
its two-tone dark silver/black
tonight:
new wheels/tires, fender, winch post, tie up wires

You can do some stuff!   I'm curious, how did you get the boat with motor on and off the trailer so fast?   Did you have a place to float it?

Na, I have a hoist in my garage, hooked that to eyelets on the transome an have a sling with 2 come-a-longs for the front.

This was before the motor was on

I like that color combo on the boat, Joe.

Does that keel roller come anywhere close to the boat when it's sitting on the bunks?

I had rollers on my old trailer, none on this one.

Now, hopefully it will be easier to get the boat in the middle of the trailer.
Big thanks to Jim !

They do help Joe, especially in a wind or current.

I find that my guide-on's have functioned better as guide-off's ... they've helped me push the boat out straight when I'm by myself.  I haven't had any trouble, yet (knock on wood), with getting on the trailer - I tend to back in deep and make sure to soak the bunks, then pull forward so the front third to front half of the bunks are out of water - this way I can pull in centered, even at a higher-than-idle speed and ride up the bunks to stop & the bunks will hold the boat still while I step out and hook up the winch strap.
