Speaking of Spar urethane!
« on: May 29, 2013, 08:38:48 PM »
I refinished the table in the CV23. I love SPAR urethane! Wish I would have taken a before picture.

How many coats Jason? Looks like the pictures in those cruiser ship magazines, with all the natural wood of the interior of the boats.

One coat of natural stain to bring back a little color. Two coats of Spar. Spar will hold up to sunlight and rain all day long. I should never have to refinish this table again. Not sure if it's teak or what kind of wood it is.

Spar Urethane is the bomb.  I use it on front doors all the time.  3 coats on the outside of the door, 2 on the inside.
Yes, the UV resistance is excellent.  I'm glad someone used it and is happy ... if I had any wood on my boat, it would definitely be treated with "spar-thane."

Finished a Pabst 11" racing runabout with a new 22 HP Mercury in spar varnish in my youth. Many coats of spar varnish on the oak stringers and short mahonany deck. Boat would go 35 MPH, but seem much faster since you were so low to the water. Beautiful boat and motor. Mercury's were white then.

I like the used chewing-gum dispenser between the cup holders.

Just a tip from my prior mistake for anyone else using Spar Urethane, don't shake the can!  First time I used it, I shook it up and stirred vigorously.  The stuff is like honey - tons of tiny bubbles won't pop or rise after you brush on.  Now, I put a small mixing paddle on my drill, start at the bottom of the can in low speed and give it several minutes to mix up without bringing air into it.  It will go on super smooth and glossy.
