July 4th on Clear Lake
« on: June 25, 2013, 12:41:32 PM »
Jess and I have decided will will be going up to Clear Lake, IA to watch the fireworks on the lake for the 4th. We've heard a lot of people say that it's a good show, and I think it would be neat to see the show on the lake in a Glastron. Anyone in the area is welcome to join us, we will probably be out on the lake all afternoon also. This lake is only about 30miles from the Mn border off I-35

We're headed to Texas shortly after the 4th ... putting a northern trip in just before makes me feel like I'm going to be driving the whole length of I 35 ... Not sure I will make it, but thanks for the notice!

I will be happily 400 miles North helping to feed the mosquitos and surprise, surprise, towing the mermaid on the kneeboard.  I hear the fireworks are beautiful, but getting off the lake is a nightmare.  Be Careful!!!  and report back...I'd like to know if that's actually true or not...

I think we can beat some of the rush by cheating a little... Jess's family has a private church camp they go to up there every year, so we should be able to use their dock and gravel ramp and avoid the zoo.  ;D

Awesome.  Yeah, that should do it then.  I'm sure you've heard the same stories I have then...hours in line to get off the lake afterwards.  Cool, enjoy!

Yes, I have heard some crazy stories about how packed Clear Lake, and Saylorville Lake get. Like boats over the whole lake spaced 5 feet apart packed... should be interesting. I have also heard that watching the fireworks on the lake is awesome as well. Since this is kind of an off year for our normal 4th activities, we figured it would be a good time to "experience" it.

I used to live in the area and boated out there a few times. That is the only bigger lake in the area so it can get very busy. I watched the fireworks from our boat on White Bear a few and it was a Zoo after they were done. There was huge waves from all the traffic and people driving way faster then they should in the dark. Be safe and have fun.
I think this has become an addiction.

We will be watching fireworks from the river this year. Not sure if it will be on the mississippi in St. Paul or the St. Croix in Stillwater. Depends on how high the water is (current is strong in st. paul at high water. Hard to anchor)

If any of you would be in the area or don't mind a drive, you're more than welcome to join us on Lake Arbutus for the July 6th fireworks. We are in the Russell Memorial campground section and they usually provide a water ski show before the fireworks also. I've been to a lot of fireworks through my life in both big and small locations with some big budget areas and have seen some pretty spectacular displays, but we really enjoy the fireworks in that location because there are some construction workers who own a local company that just put even the official Hatfield fireworks (they go off first there) and most of the local cities to shame - and they are almost right over the main beach area - so if you aren't sitting out in your boat watching, it "seems" like they are going off right over your head - and these guys put A LOT into it (work, time, & especially money) every year. Of course there's always the chance they had a rough year and won't do it sometime - but so far it has really been something to see the last quite a few years.   :)
