Very Cool Carlson
« on: July 20, 2013, 06:01:53 PM »
I was at Famous Freddy's In Fox lake IL. They were having an antique and classic boat show. Turns out my CV-23 was neither antique nor classic enough for them. They were mostly into old wooden classics and some very old fiberglass boats. I met a guy named Dale says he's a member out of Peoria Il. The boat was used by Mercury for testing on lake X.

Thats aare one  !
Thats a CT-15 ,from 1968, the first full tunnel Art built when he was introduced to Bob, 1969, that boat was one of the first made at the new Anahiem plant after Bob and him made the deal, Bob bought Art out, closed the Carlson boat line and made Art the head of the Anaheim plant, That was  the same time Bob and Art were working the deal to make the Italian made Molinari boats at the new plant.  As far as I know, that boat was the one of only a couple, or few of them. That boat was a race boat, and not sold to the general public.
Great Pictures !

In the event, you ever wondered where Mercury's Lake X was, here is an extract from the Orlando, Fla, paper. The lake, itself, is on the north side of the town of St Cloud, just past the southern edge of Orlando./////////// Whitaker was a customer at Mercury Marine, which makes boat engines, said Greg Kissella, director of marketing services at Mercury Marine's headquarters in Fond du Lac, Wis. It tests its products on Lake Conlin, also known as Lake X.
"Race boat drivers will bring their boats and equipment to Lake X to have them fine-tuned," Kissella said.

Lake X has been a secret testing ground for Mercury's outboard motors since 1959. The company, Osceola County's 10th largest employer, leases the land surrounding the lake from the Kirchman Corp. in Altamonte Springs, a developer of computer software for banks.

Its owner, Kenneth Kirchman, bought the 10,444 acres around Lake X in 1983 from E.C. "Carl" Kiekhaefer a founder of Mercury Marine.

It has to be. He said he recently added the megaphones to the motor. He also said he sometimes runs a 150 on there.

That cable steering, through the deck with the pulley, definitely communicates that you'll want both hands on the steering wheel.

That CT-15 was also at the Tomahawk WI. show. Very well done boat. Wish I could have seen it run. I also saw a Beeline at the Tomahawk show but it was a different year. A lot of cool Fiberglass is also showing up at Maynard's meet in Sept. I believe the date for the meet this year is Sept. 7th.

Bill Anderson has a couple Sapphires it could have been one of his. I think there's only like 8 of them. I use to go to the LOL ACBS show when it was at Red Wing, Maynard's is just too much wood, and "That's not stock" for me.

The end one is a Switzer Flying Wing. There use to be one at Tim Olson's.
