I've only heard good. Couple buddies running them without issue. No fault warranty is a plus, and, I've read on other boating forums from mechanics who have played with them that they actually are (like their advertisement says) in some ways built better than the Mercs. Maybe true, maybe not, but, like you, have yet to hear anything bad. And the price is real good. If I blew an Alpha, I'd definately buy one.

I think it's more of a moral issue. The SEI is assembled in Florida with globally (including US) sourced parts. But do we even know where all the Merc parts come from?

I went to drain the oil out of the outdrive and only about a cup was left....and a lot of water. So that is what blew up the gears...no oil.

So not only will the upper need new gears and bearings but the whole thing will need to be resealed.

Jason

It has been a very bad year for braking parts. Maybe it is the Glastron cave.

So far have had good luck with mine. No issue so far.

Drain the oil before the trip on Saturday after 20hrs of use found very little metal on the magnet of the drain plug.

Ordered mine on a monday afterwork had it on Saturday morning. Great service, hope not to use there warranty  but it is there 3 yrs no questions asked.

Jeff, did you do the whole thing or just the lower? I am thinking of doing the whole thing since the bottom must have metal shavings and need new seals. Then I know I am good. Someday we can use it as a practice unit and learn how to rebuild these ourselves.

Darn Glastron cave....I am gonna burn it down.

Jason, I bought the complete drive, upper and lower.  I only have about 7 hours on it and the engine so not enough time on it to be able to give judgement.  I wanted the security of knowing the whole thing was new and that I was going to put a little more horsepower in front of it.  I've had my share if bad luck with drives.

Yea Mark, you're right about that and I have the hard luck trophy to prove it!   I have since bought 3 new Power Tech props.  A 23p for Burnin Daylight which got upgraded to a gen II last fall, and a 19p and 21p for Hot Knots.

I am willing to bet he is!

Being that I have only seen outdrive stuff on here for the most part, what are we looking at there? Doesnt look good in any case. Did you have any warning? Get stranded?

Any luck with the renewed tank??

Or do you think we could put the 175 on a piece of wood for you?

Never thought about an entire boat being on the Hard Luck Trophy"
Tank is in and we'll be taking it out tomorrow evening after Joni gets home if the weather is nice. After our texts today, I've decided to change all the fuel line, tank to Racor filter. That is all that is left and old.

Planning on bringing the 23 to Red Wing.

That is looking at the upper gears after removing the top cover on the outdrive.

No warning. Just quit moving and engine got hot. It all made perfect sense pretty quick. We were a mile from the ramp. I started paddling and some nice fella stopped and pulled me in. Nice people on lake Minnetonka!

It wasnt Jim, was it?  ;D

What a year it has been for trouble, on top of a late start to summer. I hope we have a real late fall.
