95% complete. Decided to keep original seat upholstery and spend the money on a bunk trailer. The list: New shift/throttle cables, steering wheel, side pad upholstery, carpet, plug wires, plugs, speakers, stereo, Original tachometer, and a matching OMC speedometer. Have rectifier on order for the Tachometer. Still charging battery, but after all I've read, and seen it's my last hope to get accurate RPM readout. 1st picture is Before work.

Did you remember the tach reading at 53?  Those ride a little heavier in the water than the CVX 16's.  The 84 crossflow would be high compression requiring premium fuel.  Unless you changed the head gaskets.  Had a neighbor ran reg in his 83 but the new owner got a new powerhead.  They said it was a faulty oil injection.  84 was the first year for VRO but were not Ethanol proof.  We're still getting some 86 octane non ethanol in our tank until they can't get it.  Then a blended mix of premium 91 and reg 84.  There's a formula on line for blending to show the new octane.  Some say having old fuel loses its octane and some say it's a myth.  Ethanol tends to lose it as it absorbs water.  That's why it's a no-no.

Still working on the Tach issue. Rectifier is on it's way, I've had spike readings that are not accurate. I only use non ethanol Regular gas 91 octane. Unless I buy some gas on the lake witch is not often. Possibly after this weekend I will have gotten that rectifier installed and I can actually do some prop test. Ill post on this page my results with rpm ranges.

Thanks guys! Rectifier is in and Tachometer is working perfectly now :) That viper 13 7/8ths X 19 @ 53mph is Running 5800 with motor trimmed out. This is with 3/4 full tank and two people. Already got my hands on a 12 3/4 X 23 original prop from the 80's. And this prop failed my expectations. Was hoping for a little increase in RPMs with the smaller diameter, and enough decrease RPM's because of the pitch. With the math I was thinking it would even out to a safe RPM range. Hole shot was satisfactory, not much bow lift, and just a little longer up on plane then the 19. So I gave it some gas, and it spins out, looses grip on the water. Brought the throttle up real slow. 49mph @ 4900rpm. I got my eyes set on the same viper prop @ 20 pitch now just to bring my RPM's down a little. Will keep the 19 if I ever load more than 2 people. My boat must like more blade surface and cupping. I wonder if the cv16's sat the lower unit in the water more? Motor on my cvx is bolted on to the lowest setting but it seems to jump out of the surface of the water.

Beautiful boat !  Keep posting picture !

I have my motor up, second from the bottom hole which puts my cavitation plate one inch above bottom of ( CV16 ) hull.
Picked up a few MPH by doing so, and huge improvements in handling at speeds !

Only draw back is your steering set up, might be to much of a angle if you have splash well or transom mounted cable.
If you have tilt tube set up and a good angle for cable you'll be OK ...
Or you might have to cut a new hole in splash well for cable.

Believe Dane (Aquamanic) has same boat/motor as you, he might have some idea on motor height & pitch and brand of prop.

I see. Lower units do sit more in the water on the cv 16's. Mine is bolted all the way at the lowest level. So my boat is already 3 to 3 7/8ths from bottom of the pad. And there is an interesting cut out. Don't know if that actually helps, or causes a low pressure area.

My brother's 2010 Ranger had the same hull design, think most of the newer bass boat use that design (cut out).
Maybe acts as a set back at high speeds, people on Scream & Fly could give you the tech. info.

I've heard your cavitation plate should be one inch above hull for best (straight line) performance, so that's where I set mine but would guess you would get prop blow out pretty bad in turns.
Doug has his motor on bottom holes and hasn't had any water pressure problems on either of his hulls (V-153 & 15' Baja) but I was worried so placed mine on second hole up from bottom.
I have a water pressure gauge on mine and seem to get good psi at all speeds (10 psi at idle & 20 something at top speed).

I would put your motor on second hole from bottom and see what happens ... If your steering set up will allow it.

I used a 23SS OMC prop last fall and it ran exactly the same as a 21 Aluminum.  About 52 @ 5800.  CVX16 w/140 small block Looper.  The 23 has too small of blade area for a boat of any size.  The step on the transom was what I thought you had.  Bass boat design to mount the cav plate level with it. As the water leaves the pad and goes up it works the same as a jack plate giving full bite.

My boat is a 1987 CVX-16 with a propshaft rated 1985 115 HP Johnson.  I tested a 22" Lightspeed, an OMC 21" 2-blade bronze, two 21" SST II props, a 20" and 22" Raker, and a 23" SRX.

The test results are on the National Glastron site.
