The oil pump will likely turn easy by hand, but when it is up against pressure, then they become harder to turn. Which is why I suggested driving it with a drill.  Monitor your oil pressure, does the pressure release work correctly.  Old skool was 10 psi per 1k rpm, but now we put lighter springs in to obtain about 35-40psi, any higher eats HP.  Jerry suggested the dizzy body is hitting the can? Is this possible?  Missing shims?  Give me a call if ya like, work in on z interior.  Mike.

It's not that the dist. rotor wouldn't go around, but the dist wouldn't turn to set timing. There's no other choice.

Just an update, changed the oil filter after running 2 hours in the tank in the backyard and cut it open today to find very little fines in the filter. So i am crossing my fingers that with a couple more filter changes (one after Rathbun, and one towards the end of July) I should have the majority of the fines removed.

BTW, I am running the Highest quality filter AC Delco has to offer, The UPF Series.

I cut a From ph-8a apart one time and found a big hole left by the manufacturing process.  All my race engines ran Oberg's.    As for the rest of the engines, I'm fond of ac delco, Purolator, and Bosch.  Certainly could not hurt in your case Brandon sine you may have some floaters.

Ya know, Not to stir up the pot, but maybe some time I should do a bunch of oil filter cuts and post them for comparison. We did that at work when we were a GM dealer. All I can say is our AC delco filter sales really picked up over the counter.

Oh no. An oil filter debate is coming. Plenty of info on the web. Fram is one of the worst. I use Napa brand which are made by wix.

I used fram for years until I cut one open at work. I now use either fleetguard or acdelco.

Jason et al, you are correct, lots of info on web concerning oils and filter to not post a discussion.  I bought a tool years ago to cut oil filters open, kinda like a big cut opener.  Cuts a clean not as sharp, and no filings to contaminate.  We use it to inspect bearing wear, the shiny molybdenum looking mud in the filter.  I still love Oberg's because they filter well and when open they show everything.  They also have far less psi drop than canister filters.  Tatletale indicates when differential pressure is to high( clogged).  In any event, I hope  they are able to get good use out of it this year.
