Treasure Island River Area
« on: July 20, 2015, 11:11:17 AM »
Just thought I would post a view of the river around and mark a few things so people new about them.

First is the sand bar straight out from the launch. I watch someone hit it every weekend. Some of it sticks out but most of it is just inches underwater. You can drive around it and then follow the yellow line up into North Lake. I have done it as well as others. I don't go very far into North Lake, just usually into the mouth of the lake. Most of North Lake is pretty shallow 5 ft or less. I just don't know it well enough to give recommendations.

When leaving the marina stay in the maintained channel until you go threw the buoys and past the Marina sign that's on the main river channel. You can venture out of it the channel and a good portion of it is deep enough, however there can be logs and debris floating/ submerged. I have also been told that there is a stump field out there somewhere as well.

In the main river channel like anywhere on the river you need to stay in the main channel between the green and red buoys. Remember RED Right Return. Meaning you want the Red buoy on your right side when going up river. This section of the river doesn't have any no wakes other then by the marina and then once you get up to Prescott where the St Croix and The Mississippi meet. Also there are not big large areas that you really need to worry about getting out of the main channel, its marked pretty well.
I think this has become an addiction.

Hopefully this is a good place to add this information.
This is the navionics track information of our trip on Friday evening from the south side of Kinnickinnic state park to the cove, or sand pile right outside of treasure Island.
This link will show the info in a web browser.

Here is a screen shot showing the speed graph

This should give a pretty good indication of what the trip will be like.
I also took a video of my trip from TI to the north side of Kinnickinnic state park on Sunday. I will try to get a YouTube link posted soon.

If you click on the link you can see in more detail the areas I pointed out. As you will also see there are more wing dams than I drew on my map.
I think this has become an addiction.

Which sand bar? The one by the marina?

Are the wing damns buoyed or visible?
The sand pile is as far north as I've been.

the wing dams themselves are not marked with buoys, but as long as you are in the marked channel you are good. when the river is low you can see some turbulence where they are.
