I think there is a thread on here somewhere about the redneck toon. We owned a very nice Bennington 2275CC, loved it, but a pain to prep, clean, and store. Redneck toon(Lowe 200) gets washed when it rains, and blown out with a leaf blower. Got maybe $1200 in her. Plans are to make a center toon/transom. Maybe I/O, maybe twins. Must be reliable to be on Mo river, so two outboards likely be that. As for your outboard, the shifting is based upon a hydraulic pump tied the two solenoids that apply pressure to shift forward or the other for reverse. Water in the fluid or wrong lube is usually their undoing. Cool thing, if they both lose power the drive locks in forward. I assume as a means for it to get ya home. If the powerhead is OK, and you can score a lower unit for $40, then you should be good. Get the correct oil, and don't be afraid to drain and check for water after a run or two. No water or loss of fluid and you should be golden.
