1978 GLASTRON CARLSON CV23HT FOUND
« on: March 28, 2017, 02:25:22 PM »
For the past few years after falling in love with the boat chase seen in the 1978 James Bond movie Moonraker,  I've been hunting the 1978 Glastron Carlson CV23HT Hardtop.   The first one I found got me REAL excited.   I drove 10 hours round trip but passed on it as it was $8,000 and not running.  oh...the the seller was not a man I wanted to do business with.   I was very disappointed!

I had an old WANTED! Craigslist Ad still up and received an email from Gregg from the site letting me know of a CV23HT that had just come up for sale.   I contacted the seller and was on my way from Texas to Arizona the next day.

Its always been garaged and in very nice shape.   Thanks Gregg.   Any guesses as to how many are still out there???

Congrats looks like a very nice boat. I know there were only a limited number of the hardtops built. 45 or so seems to ring a bell but not for sure.
I think this has become an addiction.

I've been told 300 total.   But perhaps there's 45 or less surviving today.

Yep, 300 was what I was told, and some were exported.

Have you located the panel for firing mortars? We have someone on the forum who can build one for you if its not equipped from the factory.  Actually several members have that skill.

That is a fantastic craft, and unheard of at that price.  Glad to hear a fan was able to score the deal.  Would love to see it, maybe we need a Midwest meet, say OK or Ozarks?

That would be great!   But I had to add $2000 to the price,  because the teenagers I sent to pick it up,  burned up my transmission in my truck bringing her home.

Clay Morris is trying to do one in OK.  The last date he threw out there was the same weekend as our meet.

Maybe south should be first, then IA, then MN.  Make sense as spring weather moves through.  Could have OK or MO in late May or early June.  Then maybe Rathbun before the 4th of July?  May need a new thread Doran, not really talking HT right now.

Nice find! I love those hard tops.. I've always wondered.. How many were made compared to the scimitars?      I think there are fewer 23ht's than scimitars.   Enybody??

Sorry about the Trans.  CVX Fever had it right

Really like having the back-up camera in the Tahoe. Next Joe put a transmission temperature gage in that truck if it doesn't already have one. I'll never own another tow vehicle w/o one.

" How many were made compared to the scimitars?      I think there are fewer 23ht's than scimitars.   Anybody?? "

Good question !
I never heard the "Only 300 made" one, But with the amount that have come up "For Sale" in the last ten or so years, I would guess that is true.  There was one that showed up at Red Wing ... having trouble finding pictures of it. Can't remember the year ...

It was either 2012 or 2013. I know it was the second year I was there as I last it on my way up highway 61. The 1st year I came cross country on county highways from 94. It had to be 2012, my leg was still pretty bad the 1st year I was there, and I broken my leg in 2011
