Saskatchewan V-215 Vagabond
« on: May 16, 2017, 01:58:27 PM »
Hi from the frozen north.

Bought a 1975 V-215 Vagabond with OMC 302 engine and Electric Stringer drive in middling condition.

As you'd expect for a 42 year old boat she's been got at quite a bit bult slowly bringing her back to life.
Work done so far include
  • Carb rebuild
    Alternator rebuild
    New plugs, distributor points etc
Wet sand and polish to remove decades of oxidation - not looking for pristine, I am leaving the scars and dings whre they punch through the gelcoat - discovered the boat is cream coloured not white :)
Rebuilt the trailer axle, the shorelander trailer isn't original and was maxed out at 3500 lbs so replaced axle with 5500 heavy duty axle and matching tires and added electric brakes. (that was pretty iffy towing her without brakes )
All oils replaced and flushed including the elusive OMC lower oil for electric shifts
Some rot in floor at rear near ladder but otherwise pretty good
Engine is a bit tired but going well enough to not warrant a rebuild yet
Looking to reinstate seats at rear and see if I can get a canvas but finding anyone willing to build one is hard.

Otherwise a fun boat that is slowly coming back to life (points so worn the timing was set to 20 BTDC, car alternator initially installed, water separator replaced with auto fuel filter etc etc)

Regards

John
