CV-23 Hatch Cover
« on: July 18, 2017, 04:51:24 PM »
I just spoke with Dan. He has been at the meet a few times. He currently has 4 hatch covers. He also has a mold that he had made.  He has 1 acrylic cover that he said is pretty much an exact match to the original. He also has 3 lexan ones He said they are a little lighter in color and have a couple slightly visible air bubbles on the edges from the heat/ vacuum process.

He can have more of either made the company he had do them is still in business and he owns the mold he paid to have made.

He said 225.00 for the acrylic ones and 150 for the lexan ones.

Let me know if anyone is interested in them am I can PM you his number.
I think this has become an addiction.

I am but probably not right now with all the other expenses.  Can he be listed as a source? Maybe he wouldn't want that. It would be down the road for me. Mine isn't THAT bad.

I just spoke to the tech dept at the paint company I have been using to see about clear coating the lexan. They said no problem just sand it with 600 or 800 and clear coat it. If you want it a darker shade or different color you can tint the clear with what ever color basecoat.
I think this has become an addiction.

So what are the advantages of one over the other. Since you mentioned clear coating, I assume scratches are one?

Lexan scratches easy. But it is a lot more flexible so it would be harder to break.

I'm just finishing a 2 year restoration of my 1978 cv 23. The last piece I need is the front defy hatch cover.  Can you supply contact info on how to get a hold of Dan?  Thanks. Rich

Just in case some Europeans are reading this. A friend of mine reproduces them as well. So shipping might be cheaper.
