Bimini Top for CVZ-18
« on: August 08, 2017, 02:20:41 PM »
I have/had a fairly decent Taylor sun shield on board the CVZ, but even the slightest wind made it fold and come apart.  Last weekend while floating on the Mo, a breeze came along and collapsed the assembly sending the support rods flying.  I was able to catch two, but a third took a drink in the river never to be seen from again.   Not terribly upset as it seemed to fight me anyway as was particularly evident this year at lake Rathbun.  Looks like I could get the size right, but what is everyone's thought on having a Bimini on a CVZ-18,  odd, OK, sacrilegious?

Its your boat do what you want.  I plan on putting one on Phoenix and the CVZ-18 in the future.

I like running free air.

But I could see in the hotter climate it would be nice.

After being out in the Bal Harbour on several hot days, And also rainy days with the top I think it is a really nice addition.
After having tried to cobble something together for the 1900 it became rather evident that not only having something that functions well when it's up, but also something that folds in the right place is what will make it very useful.
For example having a top on the 1900, if you didn't want it up it needs to land in the right place both forward and rearward allowing you access to the open bow, or storage under the sun pad.
I think that's where having a pro like Doug or Alan (fill in your local canvas shop) fit one to your boat would be advantageous.

I'm going to take some measurements tonight, and go from there.

I checked with several shops here locally, they can install them, but not really fit one per se. I took measurements, and ordered one online.   Scrambling once again to be ready for the meet.

My V-156 had a slide rail for top, forward for erect, back for when it was folded down, so it was out of the way, against transom pad.

A couplease of mine have that slide too. It probably does make it more versatile. I've only tried the top on the V163 a long time ago and it had shrunk too much.
It would be nice to have the option if you need to get out of the sun.

Ordered from NBT $237 with free shipping on August 9th, received it Saturday, and installed and wash the z for the trip.  O can walk under it while standing so that is why it seems tall.  Lays down nicely on back seat so the boat can be used with the cover up or down.   We have high hopes of relaxing in the shade, hopefully it will work well.  BTW, not all the straps are attached in the photo, when they are all on, it really tightens up nicely.  Yep, that's Tim(Makinwaves) helping clean for the weekend.
