I went to pick up my 18 today and found a piece of crumpled up paper in the seating area. Picture included. I hadn't realized this boat has been in storage this long. It will be good to get it out finally. Now, on to the paper, ifI get lazy during the winterization process I won't put drive oil back in the outdrive. I then leave myself a note attached to the trailer tongue as a reminder to replace the lube.
I did get my list done on this boat so it will be at the meet in a few days. Steering cable/done, clean the carb/done, fuel filter/done, fresh gas/done. Now it just needs a bath.

It has been awhile since I saw it last, maybe Rathbun 2011? Very nice looking boat. Great idea on the note, but curious why you would pull the lube. I would think leaving the lube in would prevent any moisture from contacting or causing corrosion on any drive components? I suppose it is sealed I assume you put the plugs back in?

I ALWAYS at a minimum check the drive oil for contamination (water/excessive metal). Then I usually pull the drive and put it in my basement. This one I didn't as I knew it would be in storage for an extended period of time. When I get lazy I don't put new oil back in, which is most years. If I see even a little water in the oil it gets pulled and put in the basement for teardown to address the leak. I generally store them with the plugs in but this one was the exception. I went to pull the plug to put oil in and the plug was not in its home. Found it in the cup holder so I know I did it on purpose.

Thanks for the explanation, getting the water out and understanding if leaks may be present is a good idea.
