Story on GT 150 bow medallion as a gas cap?
« on: September 02, 2017, 01:13:23 PM »
Does anyone remember the guy who mounted a gas tank in the bow of his GT 150 and then had the filler route up through where the bow medallion sits? He used a cabinet latch to make the emblem flip up and down. I thought there was a story of his project here in the Forum. Thanks!

Nope, that is my friend Tim's GT(Makinwaves).  We cut up a Larsen tank and tig welded to fit above the ski locker.  Pretty sure the info and pics are on here somewhere.  I'll let him know someone is looking, and maybe he can repost.

Wow, that would be great. The best part of the story was changing the medallion into a gas cap. I figure I can get ~18 gallons in the ski locker space along with my gel battery.

I did a search for MakingWaves and found the post. But, nothing on how the filler neck and gas cap were done. Maybe still a question for Tim?

http://forum.cgoamn.com/index.php?topic=5011.0.  I found it under a post entitled badges.   We welded on a filler neck and cap to the tank, similar to how we would in vw based race cars and buggies.  The gt badge is aluminum, so a simple drill and tap.  The hinge is a kitchen drawer type, and is screwed to a block of wood glasses to the inside top.  I think the hinge was a Blum type for flush panels.  We had considered using a Dodge tank filler cap with gt emblem, but those are bigger than the gt bubble where the badge goes.

Thanks Michael and Tim! I posted a question to the old post about a picture showing more of the hinge, hopefully Tim will see it or post it here.

Also, any comments on how the boat handles with that 14 gals of fuel up front?

Unless he has pictures tucked away, it will be hard to show the hinge detail because his boat is with Trent(mercman?) For most of the season with engine issues.
