Weight of cap of CVX20 Intimidator
« on: October 18, 2017, 09:24:04 AM »
Thinking of splitting my Intimidator, suspending the cap above, while I work below on the hull.  Would make work easier with the stringers and rub rail wood, which is bad in some areas.

Any idea what the cap might weigh?  I was hoping for something less than 500 lbs.

I would think in that area maybe less.

Did the same with my GT150 just used the cleats with some Tyson straps to lift with.

Just a guess, maybe 250-300lbs without engine cover?  Mine is split, but we have only lifted a side at a time to work on it.   I will be putting it on a separate trailer soon, will have a better idea on weight then.   Personally, Id have no reason to doubt that a typical garage ceiling could hold it up since the truss/rafters are designed to hold snow loading.

ok, seems achievable, thanks.

Not sure how the cap attaches local to the transom......is it just caulked in place at that location?

Both my Timi and cvz had some tabbing in place, I assume for water proofing?  In both cases a sawzall easily cut them.  They are not laid in real well, possibly an afterthought when the cap is mated?

Sounds easy enough......pulling the cap sounds a lot easier than trying to glassing in the front of the stringers, and the gas tank encloser under the bow.  I will probably reinstall the cap before I install the front bulkhead in front of the captains seat, as that ties in the sides of the hull, and needs to be spot on I would think.

The 1982, 1984 & 1985 Timmi's are listed at 1400lbs.
CV23 is listed at 1400 lbs.
CVX20 jet is listed at 1225lbs.
Ski machine & Sprint are listed at 1050lbs.
A 1985 CVX18 is listed at 950lbs.

So 1400 lbs total weight minus say 800 lbs for small block/manifolds/outdrive, leaves 600 lbs, minus say 100 lbs for tank, and seats = 500 lbs, most of the weight would be the hull, doesn't leave a lot for the cap at all.

I don’t think those weights include the motor/outdrive. Just the boat. So yea. Probably around 3-400lbs for top half would be my guess.

950 lbs for small block Chev
Would guess deck to be in 300 lbs. range.
Kind of surprised that it's that heavy ...  How could it weigh the same as a CV23 ?

Well if anyone is willing, just stop by and help pull the top off mine, and we would know pretty closely the weight of the cap.   Tim and I can pick up the cap, but not the bottom.   Glass is heavy, and when you consider the reinforcements required to make the bow strong enough to walk on adds to the overall weight.
