Good Morning - Forum Outage Info

I'm sure everyone is curious what happened to cause the site to go down.

The very short version is that a key file that holds all the site settings (server, database server, key pwd's, etc) looks to have become corrupted.  That resulted in the errors you saw in the browser.

I requested a restore of the site from our nightly backup and moved a good copy of the corrupt file back over this morning.  Everything looks great.  We have no loss of data as only the 1 file was replaced (and that file never changes).


On the plus side, we've proven that our backups are good and that we can recovery from them quite easily.  Just takes a little time for the restore process to complete.

Good to hear it was a corrupt file and not a hack ...

The next big thing that needs to happen is the switch over to https.  You'll notice that Chrome, Firefox label us as 'Not Secure'...that's why.  In a few months Chrome & Firefox will throw up a 'Not Safe' splash page before you'll be able to click through to the site.

I honestly don't know that I have the knowledge to implement us on https.  Will research that soon.

In the meantime, make sure that your forum password is not the same password used anywhere else...make it unique to this site.  (Hopefully you've already done that.)

Well, its a start!  SSL Certificate is issued & in place for the main site.  I'll add a redirect, but suggest you rebookmark the main site:

(Its now 'https' instead of 'http').

Yep, I need another Cert for the forums...then there's like 1000 internal URL's I have to edit inside the forum so all the internal calls are https also.  Fun!

My pics and account icon are not coming through, but still at there when hit directly.  Example http://employees.casinotrac.com/16-18.jpg

It is working now, I can see my account icon right away.  I am sure all my posted pictures are back online now.

I have no idea what you guys are talking about. Sounds like a different language to me. Glad at least a few of you understand this stuff to keep us floating and to keep the “pontoon hooligans” away. Thanks guys!!!
