GT-150 Leaker / Transom crack
« on: September 06, 2018, 04:16:54 PM »
Figured I would start my own thread instead of stealing Greggs.
Last weekend when we were at the cabin I managed to get the bilge pump turned off by accident and noticed while playing out on the lake that the water was up to the floor.
After inspecting I noticed this crack on the transom.

So I put this much water in the boat with a garden hose.

You can see the water running out of the crack.

Upon further investigation I found two more, fairly substantial cracks in the upper part of the transom that we’re not there before the meet

And the tabbing on the knee brace on the port side has come undone

That's fairly serious cracking Joe.  Appears to have flexed right where the aluminum reinforcement ends.  Looks like a good winter project, assuming the GT fits inside the garage.

Hey guys, I'm new to this blog and to the classic glastron owners club. I just purchased a '78 Carlson CVX16 and it has a similar crack on the transom corner. What is the best way to fix this?

Tilt the motor up and stand on the lower unit, if the transom flexes you will need to split the hull and replace it.

Sorry it took so long to respond! I'm new to forums and struggled to upload the pictures.

I've taken her out a total of 6 times since purchasing in GA in July. The previous owner replaced the floor last year and had the ToP 115 completely rebuilt...but failed to mention the obvious crack on the transom.

I can move the transom by hand at least 3/8" when trailered pushing the motor forward...so I've finally accepted my new and exciting fall project: complete transom replacement!

Two owners prior added the large aluminum brace, I'm not sure when, but it was definitely a temporary bandaid.

I live in NC so I'm guessing I need to wait until late fall to start the fiberglass repair? Falls here are either 89 and humidor snowing, so I'm hoping I can fix and get her back together in a couple weeks.

I really enjoy this forum and everyone seems to be inciteful, friendly and love classic Glastrons more than me!

Thank you in advanced for any guidance you can provide!
