"If you pull spark, and the noise goes away, I'd start thinking rod or piston issue."

I did that and it went away. I swapped a lifter as well and it didn't change. Ill get compression numbers and pull the motor. Time to order ANOTHER engine gasket set. Im hoping a wrist pin issue that hasn't scored a cylinder. That would be the easiest fix that involves not pulling the crank.

Do they make a 1-piece oil pan gasket for these yet?

Pulling this week. I pulled the drive then ill get a compression test and oil pressure test with a gauge before I pull it just so I have those numbers. Any other "pre-disassemble" tips i should check? Like I said before, this engine looked rebuilt when i got it, but the likely cause was it was rebuilt, had this noise, and guy gave up.

Can't think of any pre tests, other than what you have already done.  The spark removal that clears the sounds should key on the cylinder to look a bit more closely at.  I would imagine if you did a full rebuild, and with proper care, that 140 would Outlast the boat.

Must have been an old OMC long block since it's blue.

Yes its an OMC, and the compression across all 4 was a shade under 150 (148/149) with 30-50 PSI of oil pressure between idle and rev to about 2500.

Well I got it apart, some scored cylinders and bearing wear. #2 and #3 had pretty tight wrist pins with #3 as the most scored cylinder and piston. No metal in oil or pan... Damn thing looks like all the parts are new too. Std/Std crank as well that can probably just get a good polish.

Ill get it to the machine shop and buy one of those complete rebuild kits on amazon for $400. Chip in the cam gear as well (still plastic)

Dropped it off at the machine shop yesterday. Amazon has a nice rebuild kit with everything but cam and lifters for $350. When I get the engine specs back Ill purchase that one. Ill paint it black too and swap my mercruiser tag over to it.
