Barfly at its new home, options for her replacement!
« on: September 18, 2016, 06:51:17 PM »
Well, she's off to Tom and Toni's.  Great little boat!

Looking at options, I kind of think this might be the one, V6, Alpha, pretty standard.

I could have sworn you said you were happy with Bar Fly.  :D
It is a bit small for your family however.
1900.00 seems pretty reasonable for that boat, if its only the floor.
Tom, did you get a new truck again?

Loved that boat, and if Tom ever decides to give it up, it'll be back here.  Its just too small...family wants to do more boating, and I want to do more boating with the family.  The Metric doesn't have enough room, or enough power for 2 adults to 'death tube' behind it.  It can do it, but it struggled.

Its either something like this or an Inboard like a Mastercraft/Malibu, etc.

It is more of a 'white blob', but I have come around to liking the late 80's, early 90's Glastron's.  We'll see.  More photos:

My other thought/want is a V-212 Sierra.  Also a large boat, with the fold down transom steps.  Also a great fit.

That would be a good choice, size wise. They have tons of room! I like V212's a lot.

There were two versions of the 4.3 L V6, 190 HP & 220 HP ... Right ?
That's a nice lookin' boat and if all it needs is a floor ... which we all know is never the case ... would be an easy fix.
After it sits on CL for a few months should come down to the $1400 to $1600 range.
Most Sierra's around the country are going for about $5000, give or take a grand.

Worth looking at ...

That 1900 in particular is interesting b/c its been in heated storage most of its life.  Floor rotted b/c the cooler drain tube apparently unhooked and it dumped water on the floor in the rear.  Was going to offer $1500 and go from there...then...same boat model showed up with a V8...a cracked V8 however.  Looks to have been used a lot more than the blue one...has more dings, etc.

This one's in Hastings.

Saw that one ... no price ...
V8 would be better for a large boat.
Block change or floor fix ...

From pictures of blue boat, stringers look OK ...
JB weld the block ... maybe ... ?

Here is another just for comparison - though it is a 1989 Futura G175 and is 17 Foot - $3,500 - with the 4.3 V6 -- I have not found a good source that outlines the differences in the late 80's and early 90's futura series but I like the full wrap windshield and the large sun deck on these -

After seeing how mine was built, in my mind a rotten floor equals rotten stringers
Floor is stapled to the stringers with no protection.
Just my 2 cents

Here's the V-212.

The owner brought his Green V-212 to one of the early meets at Island Campground.  He lost that boat when his storage facility burned down.  :(

I would love it, but $6500 is unobtainable when you're dropping $1k/mo for the kids college expenses.  (Dang life goals..)

There was a Red V-212 up in Pelican Rapids.  It had a Stringer drive and the fact that he's chopped off the molded rear seat bases had me thinking I'll pass, and it's dropped of CL now.

No I've had this truck for the last couple of years, my black one was totaled in 2013 but this is pretty much the same truck in red...and 3 years newer. Toni wanted Barfly so she could teach the grandkids how to water ski, it's a little difficult behind the CV19 as the launch would pull a 6 year-old right out his skis and it doesn't go slow very well if you know what I mean. The CV19ss is stuffed in the back of the shed for future consideration, I had a couple of people looking to purchase it earlier this spring but no serious offers so I will just leave it in the shed till the grandkids get older or someone takes an interest in her, she was my son Joel's boat so I kind of have a sentimental attachment to her and Toni doesn't want to sell it to anyone outside the club.

Assuming that it is the same owner, yes...that'd be the boat.

Yeah. And a higher probability of a soggy transom too.

JB weld the block ... maybe ... ?

A buddy of mine repaired a cracked block in his boat with JB Weld and it held. I may be tempted to try JB but I think there are better alternatives such as Lock-and-Stich. Check their web site. Interesting idea and their product is used in more stressful applications than a boat, everything from Diesel engines to a steam cylinder on a locomotive.
