I lost my gas cap for my 1981 Glastron Carlson Metric C500. I saw a few on eBay that looked familiar but I just want to make sure I am buying the right one. The one I had has a slot with two circles on either end. I usually had to use my keys to twist it open. And it was made of steel.
I read in the description that an O ring is not included. Is that necessary? I can't remember if mine even had one.
-
I Believe most of them that are like that are the same size
Can you post a link to the one on eBay
Not sure how important the O-ring is but should be easy to find any hardware store
Was yours the C500 for sale on craigslist ?
-
Yeah still on there I think
-
The 'O'ring is very important, it seals the tank from getting water in from that spot in rain or water over the bow.

From my 1976 CV16.

I bought a 2" cap and assembly and the cap doesn't fit the old assembly so I will have to put the new assembly on. How does one remove the old one? I loosened the 3 screws and tried prying it off but it wouldn't come loose.
-
It's also attached to the rubber fill tube, that go's from fitting on deck to fuel tank.
Loosen the two hose clamps under fitting.
Removing foot board or kick board will make getting up and in there much easier.
-
Well the 2" I bought doesnt fit either. Another $20 wasted since the seller was from China. The bottom is too wide.
-
Can you drill a larger hole??

Where are you from? These gas caps are all over around here in minn. wall mart even has them in there big store’s. Try gander mountain, fleet farm, manards bigger store’s, Overton’s .com. I do have this one if you can’t find any.... it has some pitting but would shine up good. And no those are not my fingernails. :)

If the op doesn't want that gas neck cap setup I'll take it. Again, let me know what you want for it along with shipping price to red wing mn if he doesn't want it.

Blue fingernail polish is your color, blue boat, why not..ha! To the OP, several of my boats have used machine screws with nuts inside, occasionally also holding a ground wire connecting the tank to filler. If memory serves me right, they have all been connected to 1 1/2" fuel hose.

That assembly looks like it may be the right size. I will attach some pictures of the one I have (sans cap) so you can see if they match.
