No Start Issue!
« on: May 02, 2015, 08:44:32 PM »
So after replacing the fuel pump and getting the tilt trim to work (without ratchet straps or leaks!) I go to attempt to start it for the first time this year. I turn the key it turns over but got nothing. Check/clean points still nothing. Use fresh fuel still nothing. So I fuel, check; air, check; spark, check; compression, check. Check wiring diagrams to make sure plug wires in correct order. Still nothing. After 3 hours of tinkering around all i have is some sweet tan lines and a boat that doesn't run!

Look in carb to see if fuel is actually squirting. Try starting fluid. Check for spark at plug itself?

when I pulled the plugs it almost like 3 and 4 cylinders weren't firing but when I checked the plugs they sparked right up. I would dump gas right into the carb thinking maybe no fuel. Is brake cleaner the same as starting fluid?

Sounds like a no fuel issue. Check that the choke is closing and gas squirts into the throat when you pump the throttle. Pour in some fuel down the carb throat if needed to see if it fires.

Did you use Stable last fall? That could be why it doesn't start. a small squirt of either works, but I said "SMALL"

So I  took her down to my step fathers place today was a beautiful day figured why not go for a drive. we started tinkering around. pumped all of the old fuel out of it. think there must have been something blocking the fuel pick up due to having a weak stream. banged on the fuel tank a couple times got a good strong flow. checked the plugs they were OK. Set gap and cleaned points. Cranked had nothing. adjusted timing on distributor and BOOM! purrs like a kitty....moral of the story i hate my friend!

UPDATE! I put the boat in the water today. She ran like a dream. Spedometer said 25 checked GPS on the phone and said I was at about 26MPH. Found a small water leak down by the motor. going to put some sealant in that area and hopefully that will take care of it!

Be careful with leaks. You could have a transom or bellows issue going on. Do you happen to remember your rpms when you were going 25?
